Okay, here’s my sharing about the “ugly world wide” topic:

So, I’ve been messing around with this whole “ugly” aesthetic lately. It’s kinda weird, right? Like, why would anyone want to make something look intentionally bad? But then I was seeing it all over the place, especially from this person who goes by UglyWorldwide. I had to dive in and figure it out.
First, I started by just looking at a bunch of pictures and reading some interviews. This UglyWorldwide person, real name Jazzelle Zanaughtti, is from Detroit. Apparently, they used to just doodle a lot. That’s relatable, I guess. I doodle too, but it doesn’t exactly turn into an art movement.
Then, I tried to make some “ugly” designs myself. It’s harder than it looks! You can’t just throw things together randomly; it still has to have some kind of… intention? I played around with mismatched fonts, crazy colors, and pixelated images. It was a mess, honestly. But a fun mess.
I experimented with different clothes too. I wore some stuff that I wouldn’t normally be caught dead in. You know, like, clashing patterns, oversized clothes that look like they’re falling apart, that kind of thing. It felt a little liberating, not gonna lie. Like, who cares if it’s “fashionable” or not? It’s all about expressing yourself, even if that expression is a bit… chaotic.
I also noticed that a lot of these “ugly” clothes are made of cheap materials. I guess that’s part of the point? It’s like, rejecting the idea that everything has to be perfect and high-quality. Kind of a big middle finger to the whole consumerist culture, maybe? I don’t know if I’d go that far, but it is not a good look.

After all this, I realized that “ugly” isn’t really about being ugly. It’s more about challenging what we think is beautiful and being okay with things being imperfect. Or maybe it’s just a trend, and it’ll be gone next year. Who knows? Either way, it was a fun little experiment.
Some things I did to make my designs “ugly”:
- Used clashing colors that hurt my eyes a little.
- Layered a bunch of random elements on top of each other until it looked like a visual mess.
- Picked fonts that were hard to read or just plain weird.
- Distorted images and made them all pixelated and blurry.
It was a wild ride, but I’m glad I did it. Maybe I’ll keep exploring this “ugly” thing, or maybe I’ll move on to something completely different. That’s the beauty of it, right? You never know where your creativity will take you. I will keep trying.
Hope you enjoyed my story!
