Okay, so the other day, I decided I was gonna figure out how to tell if my jewelry was real or not. I’ve got a bunch of stuff, and honestly, I had no clue what was legit and what was just some cheap knock-off.

I started by grabbing all my jewelry and laying it out on the table. Then I remembered something about magnets. I grabbed a magnet from the fridge.
I started testing each piece. I held the magnet up to them, one by one. Some pieces, the magnet stuck to them right away. Those were the fakes, for sure. I mean, real gold and silver aren’t supposed to be magnetic, right?
Then, for the ones that didn’t react to the magnet, I went a little further. I remembered hearing about hallmarks, so I grabbed a magnifying glass and started looking for those tiny little stamps they put on real jewelry. It’s supposed to tell you like, how pure the gold is. And I found them on some pieces.
- I checked each piece with a magnet.
- I used a magnifying glass to look for hallmarks.
- I compared the pieces with hallmarks to known real pieces.
For the other pieces I really have no ideas if they are real or fake, I just put them back to the box. I guess those pieces need more ways to tell if they are real.
Maybe I’ll take them to a jeweler sometime to have them check for me.

It was a pretty interesting afternoon, messing around with magnets and a magnifying glass. Felt like a real detective there for a minute, haha. Anyway, that’s my little adventure in jewelry testing.
