Okay, so, I’ve been wanting to mess around with some old-school fashion lately, and I got this wild idea to try and recreate a wedding dress from the ’90s. You know, that era with all those unique styles? I figured, why not give it a shot? It sounded like a fun project.
First things first, I needed some inspiration. I started by digging through tons of old photos and articles online. I was looking for anything that screamed “90s wedding.” I stumbled upon some pretty iconic celebrity wedding dresses and a whole bunch of different styles, like the ones with those big sleeves and the simpler slip dresses. There was a lot to choose from!

After I had a decent idea of what was popular back then, I started sketching. Yeah, I’m not the best artist, but I doodled a few designs that I thought captured that ’90s vibe. I played around with different necklines, sleeves, and skirt shapes until I found something I liked. It wasn’t perfect, but it was a start.
Next up, I had to find the right fabric. This was a bit tricky because I wanted it to look authentic but still feel nice. I hit up a few fabric stores and felt a bunch of different materials. I ended up going with a nice satin for the main part of the dress and some lace for the details. It wasn’t exactly what they used back in the day, but it was close enough.
Sewing Time
Now came the hard part – actually making the dress. I dusted off my old sewing machine and got to work. I cut the fabric according to my sketches and started pinning things together. I’m not gonna lie, there were a few times I messed up and had to redo some parts. But hey, that’s part of the process, right?
I sewed the main pieces together, added the lace details, and even managed to put in a zipper. It took a while, and my fingers were pretty sore by the end, but I did it! I actually made a dress. It wasn’t exactly like the ones in the pictures, but it definitely had that ’90s feel to it.
Finally, I tried it on. It fit pretty well, which was a relief. I added some ’90s-style accessories, like a simple veil and some chunky heels, and took some photos. It was so much fun stepping back in time like that. The whole process was a blast, and I’m pretty proud of how the dress turned out. It’s not perfect, but it’s mine, and it’s got that nostalgic charm I was going for. I even wore it to a themed party and got some nice feedback!
I might try making another one soon, maybe with a different ’90s style. Who knows, maybe I’ll even start a whole collection! It is really a good time to create something nostalgic!
