Okay, so, I’ve been seeing this trend pop up everywhere lately – characters with black skirts. You know, everything from those cute pleated minis to those super chic, long column skirts. It’s like, suddenly everyone’s rocking a black skirt, and I’m totally here for it.
I first really took notice of it when I saw this New York stylist, Elly McGaw, on my social media feed. She had this amazing black, satin, high-low skirt from Sportmax. She made it look so effortless and cool, and I thought, “I gotta get me one of those.”
So, I started my hunt. First, I went through my own closet. I dug and dug and dug, but all I found were some old, faded things that definitely weren’t going to cut it. I mean, they were okay back in the day, but not for this look.
- Thrift stores: I hit up a few local thrift stores, hoping to find some vintage gem. I spent hours sifting through racks, but no luck. Lots of denim, lots of floral prints, but not the sleek black skirt I was envisioning.
- Online: Then I scoured the internet. I must have visited a million different online stores. I had tabs open everywhere, comparing styles, prices, fabrics…it was a bit overwhelming, to be honest.
Finally, after what felt like forever, I found it! It was the perfect black skirt. A simple, A-line, knee-length one that I knew I could style in a bunch of different ways. I clicked “add to cart” so fast, I think I strained my finger!
When the skirt arrived, I was stoked. I tried it on immediately, of course. It fit like a dream! I spent the next few days experimenting with different looks. I paired it with a white crop top and sneakers for a casual vibe, then dressed it up with a silk blouse and heels for a night out. I even tried it with a chunky sweater and boots for a more fall-appropriate look.
Experimentation
I started taking pictures of my different outfits, just for fun. I’m no model, but it was kind of cool to see how versatile this one skirt could be. It’s like the foundation for a million different outfits. I figured, why not share these on my blog? Maybe someone else out there is looking for black skirt inspiration, too. Maybe they’re stuck in the same rut I was, unsure of how to style it.
And that’s pretty much it! I wore the skirt, I styled the skirt, and I shared the skirt. It wasn’t some big, complicated project, but it was a fun little experiment, and I’m happy with how it turned out. It’s amazing how one simple piece of clothing can spark so much creativity, right?
