Okay, so I’ve been messing around with my wardrobe lately, trying to figure out what works and what doesn’t. And you know what’s been bugging me? Finding a purse that goes with everything. It’s like, I have a bunch of bags, but none of them seem to be the perfect match for all my outfits.

So, I started this little project. First, I laid out all my clothes, and I mean all of them. Dresses, jeans, work stuff, even my fancy going-out outfits. It was a mess, but it helped me see the range of colors and styles I’m working with.
Then I grabbed all my purses and did the same. I’ve got some bright ones, some dark ones, some in-betweens. I started by just trying different combinations. Like, I’d hold up a red dress and try a black purse, then a brown one, then a white one. It was kind of fun, but also super time-consuming.
My Purse Experiment
- Experiment 1: The Black Bag Test
I started with the most obvious choice: a black purse. I mean, everyone says black goes with everything, right? So, I paired it with a bunch of different outfits. And you know what? It’s pretty true. It worked well with my jeans and a t-shirt, it looked classy with a little black dress, and it even matched my work outfits. Black is definitely a safe bet.
- Experiment 2: The Neutral Zone
Next, I moved on to other neutral colors. I have a beige tote bag and a gray shoulder bag. I tried them with different color palettes. The beige one looked great with my lighter outfits, like my summer dresses and my white jeans. The gray one was surprisingly versatile. It went well with both warm and cool colors. And surprisingly the Burgundy also worked well, it’s a little bit darker than red but still beautiful.
- Experiment 3: The Color Pop
I also wanted to see if I could make a colorful purse work. I have this bright blue handbag that I love. I tried it with a few outfits, and it actually looked really good with some of them. Like, it added a nice pop of color to a simple black and white outfit. But it definitely didn’t go with everything. This one’s more for specific occasions.
After all this experimenting, I realized a few things. Black, beige, and gray are definitely the most versatile colors for a purse. They just seem to work with almost anything. But it also depends on your personal style and what you wear most often. If you have a lot of bright colors in your wardrobe, you might need a different set of neutrals. The most important is I choose the color according to the occasion, a brightly colored bag will be perfect for brightening up an outfit for a festive event, while a neutral colored bag will be preferable for a professional meeting.
So yeah, that’s my purse story. It was a bit of a journey, but I learned a lot. Now I have a much better idea of which purse to grab when I’m getting dressed. Hopefully, my little experiment can help some of you out there too!
