You know, these days, all the girls, they like them fancy things. My granddaughter, she’s always going on about these… what’s it called? “Chanel” things. Says it’s all the rage. Me? I don’t get it. But she wanted these Chanel black sandals, so I looked it up. Lord have mercy, the price of these things!
She kept showing me pictures. “Grandma, look! Chanel black sandals! Aren’t they pretty?” Pretty is as pretty does, I told her. But those Chanel sandals, they are somethin’ else, I guess. Black, simple, like somethin’ you’d wear to the market, but way more expensive, and probably not even as good.
I seen shoes, and these Chanel black sandals ain’t nothin’ special. But she wants ’em, and what a girl wants, a girl gets. These young folks are all obsessed with brands. I remember when shoes were just shoes. Now it’s gotta be this “Chanel” or that.
She told me they’re some special kind of leather. What makes it so special? You can get these Chanel black sandals online now, she says, everything is online. But you be careful, you might get robbed if you’re not paying attention.

Back in my day, we didn’t have none of this “online shopping.” We went to the store, tried on the shoes, and that was that. They look flimsy to me.
But she says all her friends have them. Or they want them. These Chanel black sandals are like a, a status thing, I guess. You wear them, and people know you got money. Or your grandma got money to buy them for you, she says. I told her, “Honey, people should know you for who you are, not what shoes you wear.” But she just rolled her eyes. Kids these days!

I guess times are changing. My granddaughter, she’s a good girl. Works hard, studies hard. She deserves a treat. Maybe these Chanel black sandals are her treat. I still think they’re overpriced, but if it makes her happy… who am I to judge? Still, she says it’s a good way to prepare for summer.

But, I guess it’s a big deal. If she’s happy, I’m happy, and it’s just money. But still, you can buy so many things with that money, and she wants to spend it on some Chanel black sandals.
But I told her, be careful where you buy them, lots of fake stuff out there. Gotta make sure they’re real Chanel black sandals. She said, “Don’t worry, Grandma, I know a place.” I hope she does. Don’t want her getting ripped off. For some Chanel sandals. Especially when they are so expensive, they better be real. Even if it’s just a pair of shoes. A pair of Chanel black sandals, to be more precise. What a world.
