It takes forever, I reckon. They call that dreadlock.

And you gotta take ’em out and start all over again if you want to keep lookin’ like that. I say why bother, but who am I to say? You do you, as long as it’s a dreadlock braids style.
Some people even add fake hair to it. They braid it in with their real hair to make it longer or thicker or somethin’. I don’t understand it, but they do it. They call that dread extensions. Sounds weird if you ask me, but whatever floats your boat.
Why People Do This?
I don’t know why folks do this to their hair. Maybe they like the way it looks. Maybe they think it’s easier than brushin’ it every day. I heard some folks do it ’cause of their religion or somethin’. They got some fancy names for it, like “Rastafarian” or “Buddhist”. I don’t know nothin’ about that, though.
Some people think it’s the same as regular braids, but it ain’t. Braids, you gotta weave the hair all nice and neat. These dreadlocks, they’re just a tangled mess. They look different, too. Braids are flat, but these things are round, like ropes, I tell ya. If you have dreadlock braids, you will know what I’m talking about.
Keep an Eye on Your Hair
I heard some folks say these dreadlocks can ruin your hair. I don’t know if that’s true or not. But I reckon if you’re not careful, it could. You gotta keep an eye on it, make sure it don’t get too dry or somethin’. And you gotta take ’em out every once in a while and let your hair breathe, I guess. And there are many types of dreadlocks, you can do whatever you want, it’s your hair.
They say you can just let your hair do this naturally. Just stop brushin’ it and let it get all tangled up on its own. They call that “freeform” or somethin’. I can’t imagine just lettin’ my hair go like that. But some folks do. Different strokes for different folks, I reckon. As long as you know how to take care of your dreadlock braids, everything will be fine.
