Okay, so, I’ve got this little Yorkie, right? Cutest thing ever, but man, does that fur grow fast! It gets all tangled and messy, and honestly, he starts looking a bit like a mop.

So, I decided it was time for a grooming session. I usually take him to a professional, but this time I thought, “Why not give it a shot myself?” I mean, how hard could it be? Famous last words, I know.
First, I gathered all my supplies. I bought a slicker brush, a metal comb, and some dog clippers online. I also got some dog-friendly shampoo and conditioner. I set up a little grooming station in my bathroom, put down some towels, and filled the tub with lukewarm water.
Then came the tricky part – getting my little furball into the bath. Let’s just say he wasn’t too thrilled about the idea. After a bit of coaxing (and a few treats), I finally managed to get him in. I wet his fur, lathered him up with the shampoo, and gave him a good scrub. He seemed to enjoy the massage part, at least.
Next, I rinsed him off and applied the conditioner. I let it sit for a few minutes, then rinsed that off too. Now came the real challenge – the haircut.
I started by brushing his fur to remove any tangles. Then, I cautiously started using the clippers. I tried to follow some tutorials I watched online, aiming for a simple “puppy cut”. It’s supposed to be low-maintenance, which is perfect for my busy schedule.

It wasn’t easy, I’ll admit. My Yorkie kept moving around, and I was terrified of accidentally hurting him. I took it slow, trimming little by little. I used the comb to help guide the clippers and make sure I wasn’t cutting too short.
I focused on his body first, then his legs and tail. The face was the hardest part. I trimmed very carefully around his eyes and ears, making sure not to poke him.
The Aftermath
- My Yorkie looks so much better now!
- He’s all clean and fluffy, and his fur is a nice, even length.
- He seems happier too, probably because he’s not weighed down by all that extra fur.
Honestly, I’m pretty proud of myself. It wasn’t perfect, but I did it! And my little buddy seems to appreciate it. Plus, I saved some money by doing it myself. I might even make this a regular thing. We’ll see how it goes next time, though. Grooming a Yorkie is definitely a workout!
From a messy mop to a handsome pup, that is what I did today.
