So, I got this task the other day to check out some apps that are like TikTok but for us grown-ups. You know, something a bit more mature and in line with what adults might be into. I’ve heard whispers about these so-called “adult TikTok” apps, and my curiosity was definitely piqued. So, I decided to dive in and see what the fuss was all about.

First things first, I did a little digging online to find out what the most talked-about apps in this category were. I came across a few names that kept popping up, but the information was kind of vague and all over the place. It seemed like YouTube Shorts was a decent contender, so I thought, “Why not start there?”
- Started by downloading YouTube, since I didn’t have it on my phone yet (yeah, I know, I’m probably one of the few).
- Once installed, I looked for the “Shorts” section, which wasn’t hard to find at the bottom of the app.
- I started watching some of these Shorts, and they were pretty much like TikTok videos – short, sometimes funny, sometimes just people doing random stuff.
I spent a good chunk of time just scrolling through different Shorts. I noticed that the content was pretty diverse. There were some educational clips, some music-related stuff, and the usual funny videos. It wasn’t exactly what I had in mind when I thought of “adult” content, but it was entertaining nonetheless.
But here’s the thing – while YouTube Shorts is a fun alternative, it wasn’t really hitting the mark for what I was looking for. It felt more like a general-purpose platform rather than something specifically tailored for adults.
Then I remembered reading about this whole thing where TikTok was apparently allowing users to mark their videos as 18+, which got me thinking. I went into TikTok, played around with the settings, and, sure enough, there was an option to restrict content to mature audiences. I toggled that on and started browsing.
Now, this was a bit more interesting. The content did seem a bit more geared towards adults, but it wasn’t a huge difference. It’s like TikTok decided to dip its toes into the adult content pool without really committing. I mean it’s okay.

My Overall Impressions
After spending a few days on these apps, I realized that finding a true “adult TikTok” is kind of like chasing a ghost. There are apps that come close, like YouTube Shorts, and TikTok itself has some features for mature audiences, but none of them really nailed it. It’s like they’re trying to cater to adults without alienating their younger audience, which I guess makes sense from a business perspective.
In the end, I think the idea of an “adult TikTok” is more of a concept than a reality. At least for now. Maybe in the future, we’ll see a platform that truly embraces adult content without being too explicit. But until then, it seems like we’ll have to make do with what we have. And honestly, that’s not so bad. There’s still a lot of great content out there, even if it’s not exactly what I was expecting.
