So, I was thinking of checking out the Christmas light show at Saks, you know, the one on Fifth Avenue? Everyone’s always talking about how it’s a must-see in New York during the holidays.

I started digging around a bit to figure out what the deal was this year. Turns out, they decided to cancel the whole thing. I read somewhere that it was because of some “softer” sales, whatever that means. The article said the company wanted to be careful about where they’re spending their money. Makes sense, I guess, but still a bummer.
Then I found out this year was supposed to be the 20th anniversary of the light show! Can you believe it? Twenty years of lighting up the whole building. It usually runs from the end of November through the beginning of January.
But this year, they’re doing something different. It is said that it draws inspiration from the Dior cruise 2024 collection. It seems interesting! I only went there once before, and the light show was every 10 minutes from like dusk till dawn. It was pretty cool, but it’s always super crowded.
Anyway, I kept looking into it, and I saw that Christmas in New York really kicks off after Thanksgiving and Black Friday. They keep the decorations up until around January 5th or 6th. A lot of people say it’s a great time to visit the city.
- Decided to see if the Saks light show was happening this year.
- Found out they canceled it due to some financial reasons.
- Realized it was supposed to be the 20th anniversary of the show.
- Learned that this year they changed the theme.
- Remembered the show used to play every 10 minutes at night.
- Discovered that the Christmas season in New York starts after Thanksgiving.
It’s a shame about the light show, but I guess there’s still plenty to see and do in New York during the holidays. Maybe I’ll still go and check out the decorations and stuff. It might be a good time to visit after all.

I will look more into Christmas decorations in NYC next time.
