So, I was scrolling through my social media, and guess what popped up? Adidas bone laces! You know, the ones that Kanye West was rocking a while back? Yeah, those ones. I saw them and thought, “Man, I gotta try that out.” So, I grabbed my old pair of Adidas Spezial – you know, the classic ones with the six eyelets. They’re pretty beat up, but hey, that’s what makes them perfect for experimenting, right?

First things first, I took out the old laces. They were these standard oval ones, about 120-130 cm long, pretty worn out, just like the shoes. I found some bone-colored laces online – had to get that exact shade, you know? – and ordered a pair. Once they arrived, I got to work.
I started by lacing straight across and through the outside of the bottom eyelets. Made sure the laces were even on both sides, that’s key. Then, I ran the laces diagonally across the shoe and through the outside of the second eyelets. It was a bit tricky to get them to lay flat, but I managed. I kept lacing them normally like this until I reached the part of my foot that usually feels a bit tight. My feet are a bit wide, so I always need extra room there. To make sure that the end of the laces were not too long, I try to pull and adjust the length for several times.
- Lace straight across the bottom eyelets.
- Adjust the lace to have an equal amount on each side.
- Run the laces diagonally across and through the second eyelets.
- Lace normally until the part needing more room.
Now, this is where the “bone” part comes in. Instead of crossing the laces over each other, I left a gap. I just ran them straight up to the next eyelet on the same side. It looked weird at first, but I kept going. I did this for a couple of eyelets, creating this spaced-out, bone-like pattern. After that, I went back to the normal crisscross lacing for the last few eyelets.
Honestly, it took a few tries to get it right. The first time, the gaps were too big, and it looked all loose and sloppy. The second time, they were too small, and you could barely see the effect. But the third time? It was just right.
Stepping back, I looked at the finished product. It’s definitely a different look! It’s not something I’d wear every day, but it’s a cool way to switch things up. Plus, it actually made the shoes feel a bit more comfortable around the wider part of my foot. The kicks on fire account had a post in Oct 2, showing off this lacing style, and it got something like 16,000 likes, which is wild. It just goes to show how a little change like this can totally transform the look of a shoe.
I wore them out a couple of times, and I did get a few stares. Some people probably thought I didn’t know how to lace my shoes, haha. But a few sneakerheads gave me knowing nods, which was cool. So, yeah, that’s my Adidas bone lace adventure. It was a fun little project, and it taught me that even old shoes can be given a new lease on life with a bit of creativity. Also, I know Adidas is not working with Kanye now because he was saying crazy stuff on social media. But this style of lacing is still cool.
