Okay, so the weather’s getting cooler, and you know what that means? Time to switch things up a bit, including the hair! I’ve always loved experimenting with my hair, especially when the seasons change. This autumn, I decided to go short, and let me tell you, it’s been a fun ride figuring out different styles.

First off, I went to my hairdresser. I’ve been going to her for years, and she just gets me, you know? I told her I wanted something fresh, something easy to manage but still stylish. She suggested a few options, and we settled on a trendy lob. It’s basically a longer bob, so it’s not super short, but it’s still a big change for me.
After getting the cut, I was excited to try out different looks at home. Here’s what I’ve been doing:
- Loose Waves: I love this one because it’s so easy. I just use a curling iron to create some loose waves, and it instantly makes me look younger, I think. It adds a bit of softness and movement to my hair, which I really like.
- Straight and Sleek: Some days, I just want something simple, so I straighten my hair. It’s a bit aging, perhaps, but it looks clean and put-together. I make sure to use a heat protectant spray though, don’t want to damage my hair!
- Play with Layers: My hairdresser added some perimeter layers to my hair, which I’m so grateful for. It makes my hair look fuller and healthier. I like to play around with these layers, sometimes I part my hair differently or use a bit of texturizing spray to give them more definition.
- The Zero Fade Inspiration: Okay, so I didn’t actually get a Zero Fade, but I saw it online, and it looked so cool! It’s more of a men’s style, with shaved sides and longer hair on top, but I think it would look great on anyone. I might try a variation of this sometime, maybe just with a bit of an undercut.
- Bouncy Blowouts: This is another one of my favorite styles, and it’s pretty easy to do at home with a round brush and a hairdryer. I was able to create that salon-worthy blowout that just makes me feel super confident. I section my hair, and then use the round brush to lift and curl each section as I blow-dry it.
- Unique Updos: Even with short hair, you can still do updos! I was playing around with bobby pins and found a few cute styles that keep my hair out of my face but still look chic.
Experimenting is Key
The best part about this whole experience has been experimenting. I’ve learned that even small changes, like how I part my hair or the products I use, can make a big difference. It’s been fun trying out new things and seeing what works best for me. My hair feels so much lighter and more manageable now, and I’m loving the versatility of this short cut. If you’re thinking about going short this autumn, I say go for it! It’s a great way to embrace the new season and try something new.
