Okay, so I’ve been messing around with my locs lately, trying to find some new styles that work for me. I figured I’d share what I’ve been up to, might help someone else out there who’s looking for some fresh ideas.
First off, I washed and re-twisted my locs. This is always step one, gotta have a clean base to work with, you know? After that, they were all neat and tidy, ready to be styled. I let them air dry because I hate sitting under the dryer, that is really boring.
Trying Out Different Styles
I started with something simple, just pulling them back into a low ponytail. Classic, easy, gets the hair out of my face. But I wanted to try something a bit more, you know, interesting.
- Barrel Twists: Okay, these were a bit tricky at first. I watched a bunch of videos, and it still took me a few tries to get the hang of it. Basically, you’re twisting two sections of locs together. They look really cool, but it definitely takes some practice!
- Updo Experiment: I tried a few different updo styles, just gathering my locs on top of my head and securing them with a band. It is not my thing, maybe my head is too big. I felt like I was carrying a small village up there.
- Curly Locs: I tried pipe cleaners to get curly locs. I wrapped my locs around them and let them dry that way. It’s a bit of a process, but the results are pretty good. You get these nice, bouncy curls.
I spent a good chunk of the afternoon just playing around with different styles. Some worked, some didn’t. It’s all about experimenting, right? It is fun actually. My arms got tired, though, holding them up for so long.
My favorite out of everything I tried was definitely the curly locs. They had so much volume and just looked really fun. Barrel twists were a close second, once I figured out how to do them properly.
It was a fun little project, and I ended up with a few new styles to add to my rotation. If you’re looking to switch up your loc style, just dive in and try some stuff out. You might be surprised at what you come up with!
