This here watch, they call it a farer chronograph, it’s somethin’ else. My grandson, he’s always goin’ on about these fancy things. Says it’s a big deal, this farer chronograph. I don’t know much, but I seen it, and it sure is shiny. Got all them little circles on it, like a dang ol’ fly’s eye. I swear, young folks these days, they like the oddest things.

He says it’s for timin’ stuff. Like when you’re bakin’ a pie, you gotta time it just right, or it’ll burn. Well, this here watch, it times things real good, he says. Better than that old kitchen timer I got, the one that dings all loud. This one’s all quiet-like, just ticks along. I guess that is somethin’, huh?
They call it a Farer, this kind of watch. Started up not too long ago, he says, back in 2015. Some folks over in England, they make ’em. Heard him say it’s British, whatever that means. They like things just so, these British folks. Gotta be just right, he says. And different. They like different over there. Lord knows why.
- This farer chronograph, it’s fancy.
- It’s British, whatever that is.
- It’s good for timin’ things, real precise-like.
Now, my grandson, he showed me some other ones, too. Said there’s a whole bunch of these little watch companies poppin’ up. They ain’t like the big ones, you know, the ones everyone’s heard of. These are like little fellas, just startin’ out. He called ’em “microbrands.” Like micro-chips, I reckon. Small but mighty, I guess. He mentioned one called a Monta and this other one, a Halios. Says they’re all the best, it’s so complicated. I don’t know nothin’ about that. Another one called Islander, he says that one’s real special to some folks. Lordy, there’s so many!
These chronograph watches, they got them little dials on ’em. My grandson says they’re for showin’ the time in different ways. Like keepin’ track of how long somethin’ takes. They look complicated, if you ask me. But he says they’re useful. Back in the day, he told me, before they had them fancy stopwatches, like the ones they use at the races, they used these chronograph watches. People who wanted to write down the time of something, they used these. I reckon that’s somethin’. Like recordin’ history, he says. Imagine that.
He was talkin’ about some other one, too. A Stanhope II. Says it’s made by that same Farer company. He was readin’ about it on some thing called “WatchCrunch.” I don’t know what that is, but he sure was excited about it. Young folks and their gadgets, I swear.

I still don’t rightly understand all this fuss about these farer chronograph watches. But my grandson, he sure does like ’em. And if it makes him happy, well, that’s alright by me. He says they’re pretty to look at. And I guess they are. All shiny and new. Like a freshly polished apple. And they tell the time, too. That’s somethin’, ain’t it? This chronograph is a good watch, I reckon. At least my grandson thinks so.
He says these watches, they ain’t cheap. But they ain’t as pricey as some others, neither. They’re somewhere in the middle, I reckon. Like Goldilocks and the Three Bears. Not too hot, not too cold, just right. He showed me some pictures of ’em. They do look nice, I’ll give him that.
These Farer folks, seems like they know what they’re doin’. Makin’ these fancy watches, all the way over in England. My grandson says they care a lot about how they’re made. They want them to be good quality, which is good. You want somethin’ that’s gonna last, especially if you’re payin’ good money for it. They want to make them special, he says, not like all the other watches out there. He says that’s why he likes them, this farer chronograph, because they are special.
- They say this Farer company is good.
- They make good watches, not cheap junk.
- They care about makin’ them special, different from the others.
This whole watch thing is a mystery to me. But I like to listen to him talk about it. Makes him happy. And that’s what matters, ain’t it? Makin’ your family happy. Even if it’s about somethin’ as silly as a fancy watch with all them little dials. This farer chronograph, it’s more than just a watch, I reckon. It’s somethin’ special to him. And that makes it special to me, too. These chronograph watches, they’re alright, I guess. They’re more than just for tellin’ time, seems like. They’re like little pieces of somethin’ bigger. I still don’t understand it all. But I’m learnin’. Slowly but surely, I’m learnin’.
