So, the other day, I had a bit of a mishap. I was painting my nails, and things got a little out of hand. I ended up spilling a good amount of nail polish right onto my favorite rug. Yeah, not my best moment. I mean, I saw this bright red splotch staring up at me, and my heart just sank. But hey, accidents happen, right?

First thing I did was grab some paper towels and try to blot up as much of the wet polish as I could. I made sure not to rub, because that would just spread the stain and make it even worse. It was a bit tricky since the polish was still wet, but I took my time and dabbed gently.
After that, I decided to go for the cold water approach. I wet the area with some cold water. The stain was still pretty visible, so I sprayed a generous amount of hairspray onto it, maybe like 10-20 pumps. Just regular hairspray, nothing fancy. Then, I added a small amount of rubbing alcohol.
- Paper towels
- Cold water
- Hairspray
- Rubbing alcohol
- An old toothbrush
- A clean cloth
Here’s what I used:
Then came the waiting game. I let it sit for a few minutes, hoping that the combination of hairspray and alcohol would do the trick. I could see the stain starting to loosen up a bit, which was a good sign.
Next, I took an old toothbrush and gently scrubbed the area. I worked in small circular motions, trying to be as careful as possible not to damage the rug fibers. Slowly but surely, the stain started to lift. It was a bit of a process, but I could see progress.
Once I felt like I had scrubbed enough, I took a clean cloth and blotted the area again to remove any remaining residue. I repeated the process a couple of times until the stain was completely gone. It took some time and effort, but I managed to get the nail polish out of the rug. Honestly, I was pretty proud of myself for not panicking and actually fixing the mess.

Finally, I rinsed the area with some more cold water and blotted it dry with another clean cloth. And there you have it, my rug was back to its former glory! It was a bit of a stressful situation, but I learned that with a little patience and some household items, you can tackle even the toughest stains.
I’m just glad I didn’t have to toss out my favorite rug. It’s definitely a story I’ll be sharing with my friends.
