Hey, everyone, it’s your boy back again with another drawing session! Today, I decided to draw Paul Newman. Yeah, that Paul Newman.

I started out pretty rough, to be honest. I watched some of those YouTube tutorials, you know, the ones that make it look so easy? They talked about shading and stuff, which is cool, but man, it’s harder than it looks.
Being a beginner, I found it super intimidating to draw from a photo right off the bat. But I remembered reading somewhere that you gotta start with basic shapes. So, I grabbed my pencil and began sketching a rough outline, just some ovals and lines, nothing fancy.
Getting into the Groove
- I drew a big oval for his head.
- Then I added some lines for his neck and shoulders.
- I lightly sketched where his eyes, nose, and mouth would go.
Slowly, I started adding more details, trying to capture that classic Paul Newman look. I erased a lot, I won’t lie. It was frustrating at times, but I kept at it. I figured, the more I practice, the better I’ll get, right?
I tried to follow some advice I found online about experimenting and not being afraid to make changes. So, I kept refining the drawing, adding more shading here and there, trying to get the light and shadows right. It was a bit messy, but I was learning.
It’s All Coming Together
After a few hours, I started to see Paul Newman emerging from the page. It wasn’t perfect, not by a long shot, but it was definitely him. I was pretty stoked, not gonna lie. I decided to keep a sketchbook from now on, like those online articles suggest. I figured regular practice is key to getting better. It was a good feeling, seeing my drawing come to life, even if it was a bit rough around the edges. Overall, I think that I did a good job today, and I really want to do it again!

So, that’s my drawing journey for today. Hope you guys enjoyed it. Don’t be afraid to pick up a pencil and give it a try yourselves. It’s all about practice and having fun. Catch you in the next one!
