Okay, so I’ve been seeing all these celebrities rocking red lipstick lately, and I thought, “Why not give it a shot?” I mean, it’s such a classic look, right? So, I decided to dive in and figure out how to actually make it work for me.
First things first, I needed to find the right shade. I read somewhere that it’s all about your skin’s undertones. I guess I’m more on the warm side ’cause I was told to look for reds with a bit of orange or brown in them. Honestly, I had no idea what my undertone was before this!
Finding My Perfect Shade
I went to the store and swatched a bunch of different reds on my hand. It was kinda overwhelming, to be honest.
- I grabbed, like, five different tubes that seemed promising.
- Tried them all on my hand first.
- Then, using that little mirror they got, I put them on my lips.
Some were way too bright, others too dark, but there was this one – it had a slightly orangey hue, and it just seemed to…pop, you know? It was a matte one. I like matte. It seems classy. I’m not a glossy kind of girl.
Practice Makes Perfect
Once I found my perfect match, I started practicing. It is not as easy as it looks, I’m telling you!
- First few times, I messed up the lines big time. Uneven, smudged… you name it.
- I tried using a lip liner, but I kept messing that up too.
- One day I got fed up with the lip liner and just went straight in with the lipstick.
And you know what? I think I got the hang of it! My lips looked pretty darn good, if I do say so myself. Bold, but not over the top. That red made me feel kinda powerful, like I could take on the world. Or at least, go to the grocery store without feeling self-conscious. I think I’m starting to understand why those celebrities are always wearing it.

So yeah, that’s my red lipstick adventure. I went from total newbie to… well, I wouldn’t say pro, but definitely more confident. And I’ve been wearing it out more often. It is like a little confidence boost in a tube. I even wore it to work the other day. It just adds something, you know?
