Hey everyone, it’s your boy back again with another deep dive into the archives of Hollywood. Today, we’re gonna’ rewind the clock and take a look at the one and only Nicole Kidman during her 90s era. Man, what a time to be alive, right?
So, first thing I did was to dig up some of her old flicks. I started with what I could remember off the top of my head. “Eyes Wide Shut,” that was a trip. Then “To Die For,” she killed it in that one, literally. And of course, who could forget her and Tom Cruise in “Days of Thunder” and “Far and Away“? Those were the days, when they were like, the “it” couple, you know?
Then I went a bit deeper. I found out she actually started her career way back in ’83, in Australia, with some movies called “Bush Christmas” and “BMX Bandits.” Never seen ’em, but hey, everyone’s gotta start somewhere, right? Her big break, though, seems to be this 1989 thriller, “Dead Calm,” and a miniseries called “Bangkok Hilton.”
I watched those too, by the way. “Dead Calm” is pretty intense. And she really nailed that role in “Bangkok Hilton“, all that drama.
But I was really here for the 90s. She did “Flirting” in 1990, one of the last Australian movies she made before she came to the States. I gave that a watch too. It’s… alright. But you can see she’s got that star power, even then.
And let’s not forget “Moulin Rouge!” Okay, that was 2001, so technically not the 90s, but it’s close enough, and it’s such an iconic role. I watched that again and, wow, she’s just mesmerizing in it. That movie is a wild ride. And there is another one called “The Others” in 2001, which gave me a big scare.
- She’s the first Australian to win the Best Actress Oscar, did you know that? She got it in 2003, so again, a bit after the 90s, but still.
- She’s done movies, TV shows, she’s a model, a singer… seriously, what can’t she do?
Here’s the thing though, what really got me was realizing just how much she’s achieved.
Going through all this stuff, it’s like watching someone’s career blossom in fast forward. It made me appreciate her work even more. Nicole Kidman in the 90s wasn’t just an actress, she was becoming a legend. And that’s it, that’s my little trip down memory lane. Hope you enjoyed it as much as I did. Catch you in the next one!
