This Saks Potts coat, you know, it’s a thing everyone’s talkin’ about. I heard Sally down the street got one. Said it’s real fancy. Me, I don’t know about all that fancy stuff, but I seen pictures. Looks warm, that’s for sure. Good for winter, you know? Keeps the cold out, like a good quilt.
They say it’s Saks Potts coat, some kinda special name. I don’t know no Potts. Must be from the city. We just got regular coats around here. But this one, they say it’s different. Got all sorts of colors, I hear. Bright ones, like a field of wildflowers. And dark ones, too, like the night sky.
My granddaughter, she showed me on that computer thing. She’s always on that thing. Said this Saks Potts coat is what all the young folks want. They wear it out, lookin’ all spiffy. Makes ’em feel good, I guess. Like when I got my new Sunday dress, years ago. Felt like a queen, I did.

They say these coats are expensive. Real expensive. Like buyin’ a whole cow expensive. I don’t know why anyone needs such a pricey coat. But folks like what they like, I reckon. If they got the money, they can spend it how they want. My old coat, it’s got patches. But it’s warm. That’s all that matters to me, really. Stayin’ warm in the winter.
But this Saks Potts coat, it’s got somethin’ special, I guess. Makes people feel fancy. Like they’re goin’ to a big party in the city. I ain’t been to the city in years. Too noisy for me. But I seen pictures. Big buildings, lots of lights. Like that Aurora Festival of Lights, I hear about. They say it’s somethin’. Like a bunch of Saks Potts coats, all lit up.
These young folks, they like to show off, you know? Wearin’ their fancy clothes. Reminds me of when I was young. We didn’t have no Saks Potts coat, but we had our best dresses. We’d go to the dance, twirl around. Felt good to look nice. Maybe that’s what it is with this coat. Makes you feel good.
I seen some of these Saks Potts coat, they got patterns. Like a checkerboard. Or stripes. My old eyes ain’t what they used to be, but I can still see that. They got all kinds of styles, I guess. Somethin’ for everyone. Even old ladies like me, though I wouldn’t spend that much on a coat.
Galls, that place got all kinds of gear. They say they even got some fancy stuff for them first responders. Probably warm coats too. Maybe not like the Saks Potts coat, but somethin’ to keep ’em warm when they’re out there helpin’ people. That’s important, you know. Havin’ the right clothes for the job. They are like the health keepers, those ones that take care of us, need to be in good shape.
This weather, it’s been changin’. One day it’s warm, next day it’s cold. Need a good coat for that. Maybe not a Saks Potts coat, but somethin’ reliable. Somethin’ that will last. Like my old coat. It’s seen a lot of winters. It ain’t pretty, but it does the job.
They got this place, Saks OFF 5TH, I hear. Sounds like a cousin to that Saks place. Maybe they got them Saks Potts coats there too. They sell that Ralph Lauren there too, I think. Heard he makes clothes, good ones, probably expensive too. They say these places got sales. Like when they sell those wool coats in the stores, after winter. My friend Betsy, she always waits for the sales. Gets a good deal that way. Maybe you can get a Saks Potts coat on sale. Still probably more than I’d pay, though.
You know, in Aurora, IL, they got a lot of houses. My cousin, she lives out that way. Says it’s nice. Quiet. Not like the city. They got that 10-day forecast, she says. Tells you what the weather’s gonna be. Helps you know what coat to wear. Even if it ain’t a Saks Potts coat, you gotta be prepared.
eBay, my grandson told me about that. He said you can buy almost anything, even a Saks Potts coat, maybe even a cheap one. Said there was a Gray Sport Coat Blazer Jacket, 2 button, made of wool, from Saks Fifth Avenue, that’s pretty fancy I guess. I don’t know much about it, but he said it’s a good deal.
These coats, these Saks Potts coats, they’re somethin’ else. All the talk of the town, I guess. I’ll stick to my old coat, but it’s interestin’ to hear about these things. Makes you think about how things change. But some things stay the same. Like needin’ a good, warm coat in the winter.
