Okay, so, you know how you come across something online and you’re like, “I gotta try this”? Well, that happened to me with these old modeling pictures of Martha Stewart. I mean, who knew, right? America’s Queen of Entertaining was a model back in the day! This is my whole journey of trying to recreate some of these iconic shots.
First off, I dug deep into the internet to find these pictures. I mean, they’re everywhere once you start looking. There’s this one Instagram post on her business page that has a bunch, and then there’s this article, I think it was on BuzzFeed, that had like a dozen of them. They’re seriously mind-blowing. Young Martha was stunning!
After I gathered all the pictures I could, I started to really look at them. What was she wearing? How was her hair done? What kind of poses was she doing? This was going to be a bit of a challenge, but a fun one!
The Outfits
Okay, let me tell you, finding similar outfits was a task. I hit up every thrift store in town. I scoured online vintage shops. Finally, I managed to find a few pieces that were pretty close. Like, there’s this one photo where she’s wearing a sleek black dress. I found something similar, though not as fancy, but hey, it worked!
- Black dress – check!
- Some kind of fur stole thingy – check!
- Pearl necklace – check, thanks to my grandma!
The Hair and Makeup
Next up, the hair and makeup. I’m no pro, but I watched a bunch of YouTube tutorials on vintage makeup. That winged eyeliner is no joke! I practiced a few times, and I think I got it pretty close. As for the hair, well, let’s just say I needed a lot of hairspray and a good curling iron. Her hair was so voluminous!
The Photoshoot
Finally, the fun part – the photoshoot! I roped in my best friend, who’s pretty handy with a camera. We picked a few locations that seemed to match the vibe of the original photos. There’s this one shot of Martha in front of some old building, and we found a similar-looking spot downtown. We spent a whole afternoon taking pictures, trying to mimic the poses and the lighting.
The Result
Honestly, it was so much fun! And you know what? The pictures turned out pretty good! I mean, I’m no Martha Stewart, but I think we captured the essence of those vintage photos. It was like stepping back in time for a day. I posted the pictures on my social media, and everyone loved them! They couldn’t believe it was me at first. It was a great experience, and I’m so glad I did it. It’s amazing to see another side of someone you thought you knew everything about, you know? And you can appreciate the art of vintage modeling, even if you’re not into fashion that much.
