So, today I wanna talk about this movie called “Piercing.” Man, what a ride! I stumbled upon it a while back and it’s been stuck in my head ever since. I mean, I’m a huge fan of those late 70s/early 80s horror flicks, you know, the ones that are stylish, a bit messed up, and just leave you with your jaw on the floor. This one definitely fits the bill.

I started by looking for anything related to this type of movie. It turned out that “Piercing” is based on a novel by this Japanese author, Ryū Murakami. Not the “Norwegian Wood” guy, the other one. Apparently, the book is pretty cult, and the movie’s got that same vibe.
Here’s the deal: This guy, Reed, played by Christopher Abbott, seems like your average family man. He’s got a wife, a baby, the whole nine yards. But he’s got this dark secret, a messed up urge to, well, you know, end someone. So, he hatches this plan, right? He tells his wife he’s going on a business trip, but really, he’s checking into a hotel to carry out his twisted fantasy.
- I started digging, and found out that the director is Nicolas Pesce.
- Then, I watched the film. It’s only 82 minutes, but man, those minutes are packed.
He calls up an escort service, planning to off the poor girl who shows up. But here’s where it gets interesting. The girl, Jackie, played by Mia Wasikowska, she’s not what he expected. At all. Turns out, she’s got her own issues, her own darkness. And let me tell you, things get real weird, real fast. The whole thing turns into this twisted game of cat and mouse, or maybe it’s more like mouse and mouse, I don’t know. It’s messed up, but in a fascinating way.
I spent a whole evening just diving into articles and reviews about “Piercing.” People were talking about the style, the acting, how it’s a bit of an acquired taste. Some folks were freaked out, others were totally into it. I get it, it’s not for everyone. But for me, it hit the spot. It’s got that dark humor, that messed up energy, and it’s visually stunning. Like, every shot is carefully crafted, you know? It reminded me of those old-school horror movies I love so much.
After watching it, I just had to share it with my buddies. We had a whole movie night, just dissecting every scene, every line of dialogue. We talked about the ending for hours, man. It’s one of those movies that just sticks with you, you know? You keep thinking about it, trying to figure it all out.

So yeah, that’s my “Piercing” experience. I went in expecting a simple thriller, but I got so much more. It’s a wild, disturbing, and strangely beautiful film. If you’re into dark, psychological stuff, and you’re not easily offended, you might wanna check it out. Just be prepared, it’s a doozy!
What I Realized
It is a cult classic in the making, no doubt. I’m glad I found it, and I’m definitely gonna be exploring more of Pesce’s work. And who knows, maybe I’ll even try to get my hands on the original novel. This whole thing has been a blast, from start to finish.
