Okay, so, I’ve been messing around with this thing called a “Pepsi watch.” Yeah, it sounds weird, but it’s basically just a watch that’s got this red and blue ring around the face. You know, like the Pepsi logo? Anyway, I thought it would be cool to try and make one myself.
First off, I started looking around online to see what these things even were. Turns out, the red and blue ring is called a “bezel,” and it’s the thing that makes it a Pepsi watch. This bezel can be made of a couple of different materials, like this old-school plastic stuff called Bakelite, or ceramic.
I found this one watch, the Orient Mako II, that’s got this Pepsi bezel thing going on. It looked pretty slick, so I figured I’d use that as kind of a starting point. I mean, this watch is all about that sporty look, you know? The kind of style that never really goes out of fashion. It’s like, classic but cool.
So, I started sketching out some ideas. I wanted to capture that same vibe, that sporty, timeless feel. I grabbed a bunch of pictures of the Mako II and other watches that had that red and blue bezel. I spent hours just staring at them, trying to figure out what made them tick, so to speak.
Then came the hard part – actually making the thing. I don’t have any fancy watchmaking tools or anything, so I had to get creative. I found some cheap watches online and started taking them apart. I messed up a lot, broke a few, but eventually, I started to get the hang of it. I took a cheap watch face that I liked the look of, I found some different colored bezels online that fit the watch, so I ordered them, they were plastic, but it was good enough for me. Then I had to figure out how to attach them to the watch. I found that if I used a bit of glue, the bezels would stay put.
After a lot of trial and error, I finally managed to put together something that actually looked pretty decent. It wasn’t perfect, of course. It didn’t have all the fancy features of the Mako II, and it definitely wasn’t made of the same high-quality materials. But it had that red and blue bezel, and it told the time, and that was good enough for me.

It was a fun little project, and I learned a lot about how watches are made. Plus, now I’ve got a unique watch that I can say I made myself. It’s not about having the fanciest or most expensive thing, it is about having fun and making something yourself, right?
What I learned
The whole experience taught me that you don’t need to be a professional to make something cool. It’s all about being resourceful, and having fun, so, yeah, that’s my Pepsi watch story.
