Okay, so I was checking out this Baselworld thing in Basel. I’d heard about it for years, always wanted to go, you know? This year, I finally made it happen.

First off, getting there was a bit of a journey. I had to plan everything out – flights, where to stay, the whole nine yards. But it was all part of the adventure, right? When I finally got to Basel, it was pretty cool. The city’s got this vibe, especially when Baselworld is on.
The Build-Up
- I’d been following Baselworld for a while.
- They used to have all the big names there, like Rolex. I heard they had been a part of it since like 1939.
- But this year, things were a bit different.
So, I got to the event, and I noticed some changes. Apparently, Rolex and some other big brands decided to pull out. The CEO of Rolex, some guy named Jean-Frédéric Dufour, said something about the event evolving and decisions by the MCH Group. They didn’t really get into the nitty-gritty, but it sounded like a big deal. I mean, Rolex had been there since ’39!
The Changes
- Rolex and other big brands weren’t there this year.
- The organizers, MCH Group, decided to stop doing Baselworld.
- They’re focusing on other stuff, like Art Basel.
Turns out, MCH Group, the folks running Baselworld, decided to call it quits on the whole thing. They do a bunch of other events, like around 30 or so, and they’re putting their energy into those now. Art Basel, for example, that’s one of theirs. I guess they figured it was time to move on from Baselworld.
What’s Next?
- There’s this other event, Watches and Wonders, that’s supposed to be the big thing now.
- It’s where all the fancy watch brands are going.
Now, everyone’s talking about this Watches and Wonders event. It seems like that’s the new place to be for the luxury watch scene. All the big brands are apparently shifting over there. It’s like the end of an era with Baselworld, but hey, things change, right?
Anyway, that was my experience with Baselworld. It was a bit of a letdown not seeing all the brands I expected, but it was still interesting to see how things are changing in the watch world. I guess I’ll have to check out this Watches and Wonders thing next time to see what all the fuss is about.
