So, I was really bored the other day and got curious about something kinda random: what jewels are actually black? I mean, we always see all sorts of colorful gemstones, but black ones? They seem kinda mysterious, right?

First, I tried to remember any black jewels I might have seen before. I think I saw a black ring once, but I couldn’t recall what it was made of. So, I decided to do some digging. I started by just typing “black jewels” into my search bar. The results were all over the place, talking about some “black nobility” and a bunch of stuff I didn’t really get. It was pretty confusing, to be honest.
I realized I needed to be more specific. I tried a couple of different searches, like “types of black gemstones” and “names of black jewels.” This is when it started to get interesting. I found out there are actually quite a few black jewels out there!
Black Jewels
- Black Diamond: This was the first one that popped up. Apparently, they’re real diamonds, just with a lot of inclusions that make them look black. Sounds fancy, and probably expensive!
- Black Spinel: I read that this one is often mistaken for black sapphire. It’s supposed to be pretty durable, which is cool.
- Black Onyx: This one I’ve definitely heard of before. It’s a type of chalcedony, which is a kind of quartz. I saw some pictures, and it looks really smooth and polished.
- Black Tourmaline: Also called “schorl.” Some people believe it has protective energy.
- Obsidian: This isn’t technically a crystal, it’s volcanic glass. I saw some jewelry made with it.
I spent a good chunk of time just browsing through images and reading about these different black jewels. I even looked at some online stores, just to see what kind of jewelry is made with them. The prices varied a lot, from pretty affordable to “whoa, that’s a lot of money!” It’s kind of amazing that the same color can mean so many different things. It seems like it would be easy to accidentally buy a fake if you didn’t know what you were looking for.
Anyway, this little exploration taught me that there’s a whole world of black jewels out there, each with its own story and properties. It was way more interesting than I expected! Maybe I’ll even treat myself to a piece of black jewelry someday, but for now, I’m just happy I learned something new.
