So, I gotta tell you about my experience with Dr. Martens. I scored a pair of those Combs II boots a while back, and I gotta say, they’re pretty sweet once you get them on. But let me tell you, getting to that point was a bit of a journey.

First off, I somehow managed to rip off one of those little pull straps on the back. Seriously, how does that even happen? Anyway, I had to shell out some cash to get it fixed. I guess I’ll probably end up having to get it fixed again in the future. It’s a bummer, but what can you do?
Now, about the company itself. From what I’ve gathered from online reviews and stuff, it sounds like the culture at Dr. Martens is pretty decent. Seems like some of the folks working there are cool and all. But then you hear about the management, and it’s a whole different story. Words like “disorganized” and “passive-aggressive” get thrown around a lot. Not exactly what you want to hear, right?
- The Purchase: First thing, I went ahead and bought the boots. Pretty simple.
- The Rip: Somehow, I managed to tear the pull strap. No idea how, just clumsy I guess.
- The Repair: Paid to get the strap reattached at a local shop. Hoping it holds up.
- Breaking Them In: This is the real work. Wearing them as much as possible, dealing with the discomfort, and waiting for that sweet, sweet comfort.
- Tried Thick Socks: Tried to be smart and bought really thick socks to work with the boots.
- Oiled Them Up: Get some oil for my boots and used it, hope can make it soft.
What I Did
And as for the boots being suitable for work, well, let’s just say they’re more about fashion than function. Don’t expect them to be some kind of magical work boot that solves all your problems. They look cool, yeah, but they’re not exactly built for heavy-duty stuff.
Honestly, I’m still trying to figure out if these boots were worth the hype. They look great, no doubt. But between the strap incident and the whole management situation, I’m a bit on the fence. Time will tell, I guess.
Anyway, that’s my Dr. Martens story so far. Maybe it’ll help someone out there who’s thinking about getting a pair. Just be prepared for a bit of an adventure, that’s all I’m saying.
