Okay, so, I’ve been messing around with my makeup routine lately, and I wanted to share my little journey with trying to do this “almond hooded eyes” thing. It’s been a ride, let me tell you!

First off, I had to figure out what the heck kind of eyes I even have. Turns out, knowing your eye shape is pretty important for makeup. I mean, who knew? I spent like an hour just staring at myself in the mirror, trying to decide if I had almond eyes, hooded eyes, or whatever. I even had to try lifting my eyelids to figure that out. It was pretty awkward, but it had to be done.
Once I determined that I did, indeed, have the combo of almond and hooded eyes, I started experimenting. It’s kinda tricky because with hooded eyes, your eyelid gets hidden when your eyes are open. So the usual stuff that people do on their lids, it doesn’t really work.
I started off by just trying to apply eyeliner. It seemed simple enough, right? Wrong! I quickly learned that my regular winged liner was a no-go. It just disappeared under my eyelid. It was like a magic trick gone wrong.
- Attempt 1: Epic fail. I looked like a raccoon.
- Attempt 2: Slightly better, but still not quite there.
- Attempt 3: I started getting the hang of it. The trick was to make the line thinner where my lid folds and thicker at the outer corner. I was really focusing on blending everything outwards, like extending it from my eye, not up towards my brows. That actually made a huge difference.
Then, I moved on to eyeshadow. Oh boy, this was a whole other challenge. I watched a bunch of videos where people were like, “Just blend it into your crease!” But guess what? My crease is kinda hidden. So, I had to improvise.
I started experimenting by dabbing some bright colors or sparkles on my inner corners and along my lower lash line. That ended up looking kinda cool. It’s like, instead of focusing on the part of my eye that’s hidden, I’m highlighting the areas that are visible. It really opens up your eyes, it’s a nice little trick.

The Takeaway
After a lot of trial and error, I think I finally cracked the code, at least for my own face. It’s all about working with what you’ve got and not trying to force your eyes into a shape they’re not. I’m still learning, of course, but it’s been a fun process. And hey, if I can figure it out, anyone can!
So yeah, that’s my little adventure with almond hooded eyes. It’s not as easy as the beauty gurus make it look, but it’s definitely doable. Just be prepared to experiment, make some mistakes, and maybe look a little crazy for a while. It’s all part of the fun, right?
