Today, I wanna talk about something really cool that I did. I messed around with those Donkey Kong drums. Yeah, those bongo drums that came out way back in 2003 with that Donkey Kong Jungle Beat game. I got my hands on them and decided to give them a go myself, just to see what the hype was all about.

So, first off, I dug up these DK Bongos. They’re kinda simple – just two drums and a start button in the middle. But, here’s the kicker, each drum has like two inputs, so it’s actually like having five buttons. I plugged them into my old GameCube. I mean, these drums were made for games like Donkey Konga, but they also work with Jungle Beat and a couple of other games.
- I started with Donkey Konga, just hitting the drums to the rhythm. It felt pretty good, ngl.
- Then, I switched to Jungle Beat. It’s a whole different vibe. You use the drums to control Donkey Kong, like, making him run and jump. It’s wild how different it feels compared to a normal controller.
- I even tried out the Japan-only Donkey Konga 3. It’s all in Japanese, but hey, music is a universal language, right?
After playing around for a while, I realized these drums aren’t just a gimmick. They actually make the games way more fun. It’s like, you’re not just pressing buttons, you’re really getting into the game.
My Thoughts
Honestly, I had a blast with these bongos. They brought back so many memories and added a whole new level of fun to these old games. If you ever get a chance to try them out, I totally recommend it. It’s a unique experience that you just can’t get with regular controllers. Plus, it’s a great way to get a little workout while gaming! I must say that this set of drums is a classic one and worth collecting.
