Okay, so, today I wanted to talk about this fragrance I’ve been messing around with called “Elevator Music” by Byredo. You know, the one that came out back in 2018. It’s supposed to be this collab between Byredo’s Ben Gorham and Virgil Abloh from Off-White. Yeah, that Off-White. Apparently, they also did some denim stuff together, but I’m just here for the smells, you know?

First off, I grabbed a bottle of the eau de parfum. Byredo does these “extraits” too, which are supposed to be stronger and last longer, but I figured I’d start with the regular stuff. This scent is marketed for both men and women, which is cool. I’ve heard people say it’s supposed to be like background music but for your nose, which honestly, is a pretty neat concept. They say that is like Brian Eno’s ambient melodies.
So, when I first sprayed it, I definitely got a hit of something floral, which I guess is the violet they list as the top note. But honestly, it was kind of sharp and almost chemically at first. Not gonna lie, it kind of took my breath away, and not really in a good way, like I almost coughed, you know?
- First Impressions:
- That initial blast was pretty intense.
- It’s definitely not your typical elevator music, that’s for sure.
- After a While:
- It did settle down a bit. I started to get some jasmine after that initial shock wore off, but it was still pretty strong.
- And the jasmine, I think is the hedione.
Experiences
I wore it around for a few hours, and I gotta say, it did last a while. I kept getting whiffs of it throughout the day. It’s not the kind of scent that just disappears on you, which is good if you’re into that. But for me, it was a bit much. I kept thinking, “Is this what they mean by background music?” Because it felt more like the main event, you know? And I just want it to be a background thing.
I don’t know, maybe it’s just me. Maybe I’m not cool enough for this “Elevator Music” stuff. Or maybe it’s just not my kind of scent. It’s definitely unique, I’ll give it that. But I think I prefer something a little more subtle, a little less in-your-face. I like the concept, and maybe I should try the extraits one day. It’s strong and I don’t know if I love the smell.
So yeah, that’s my little adventure with Byredo’s “Elevator Music.” It was definitely an experience. Would I wear it again? Maybe, if I’m feeling brave. But for now, I think I’ll stick to my usual rotation of scents. It’s a special one for sure.
