Yo, guys! Today, I wanna talk about the CB4, the Charles Barkley shoe. You know, Barkley, the NBA legend? I’ve been digging into his shoe line lately, and it’s pretty interesting.
So, I started by looking into the whole Nike Air Max thing. Apparently, the first Air Max shoe came out way back in 1987. These shoes have these, like, air bubbles in the soles, which are supposed to be super comfy. Barkley got his own signature shoe with Nike in 1994, which is the Air Force Max CB, but that was a different style. He retired from the NBA in 2000.
I then started to research on the Charles Barkley’s shoes, and guess what? The Air CB4, they say it’s the most “toned-down” of all his shoes. I found it has this leather upper, and the laces are kinda off-center. Also, that big strap thingy he had on his other shoes? Gone on this one. And from what I found, this Air CB4 released in 1997.
I kept digging and found out about the Air CB4 II. I learned that they are the last shoe he actually played in from his Nike line. And yeah, they also got those air bubbles in the sole, just like the Air Max, and that was a real innovation at that time. It was the final shoe he played in, for real.
I went further and found out that Charles Barkley’s shoe line is kinda underrated. His stuff with Nike in the 90s was actually pretty dope. His last shoe was only worn briefly at the end of the 1998 season.
After researching, I tried to find a pair of these Air CB4s to see for myself. I looked around different stores, but they’re not easy to find these days. I finally found a pair and tried it on, and it really changed the previous impression I had on this shoe! It’s like stepping back in time to when Barkley was dominating the court. I tested them out by wearing them for a few days, doing different activities to get a feel for them. The shoe is really comfortable, and the air cushioning feels amazing.

I also checked out some online forums and saw what other people were saying about the Air CB4. Lots of people are nostalgic about them, and some collectors are still hunting for them.
So, yeah, that’s my little journey into the world of Charles Barkley’s Air CB4. It’s a classic shoe that’s definitely worth checking out if you’re into basketball history or just want a comfy, retro sneaker. And it definitely got me more interested in learning about other classic basketball shoes, too. Stay tuned for more!
