Okay, so I’ve been messing around with this Citizen HAQ watch thing for a while now, and let me tell you, it’s been a journey. I wanted to get a good watch, nothing too fancy, but something that tells time very accurately.

So, I started digging around, and found this “HAQ” thing. It stands for High Accuracy Quartz. Apparently, these watches are way more accurate than your regular ones. Like, we’re talking seconds per year, not per month. Crazy, right?
My first move was to check out some forums and blogs, to see what other people were saying. Some folks were raving about this Citizen Chronomaster with the A060 movement. It’s solar-powered, so no battery changes needed, which is pretty sweet. Others were saying that for under 1k, you could get a Junghans Max Bill Mega Solar. 38mm, titanium case, super-light, also pretty good.
I spent hours going back and forth. Some folks were saying that while these Citizens are nice, sometimes the details are a bit off. Then there’s the whole Swiss vs. Japanese thing. Some people swear by Swiss watches, but I wasn’t looking to spend a fortune. At that moment, I came across some Grand Seiko, and the 9F movement was mentioned a lot, but it isn’t solar.
Finally, I decided to go for the Citizen Chronomaster. This particular one had a blue sunburst dial and it was 37mm, which is a good size for my wrist. It was a bit of a splurge, but the idea of having a super accurate, solar-powered watch was just too tempting. Also, the finishing is supposed to be top-notch.
I placed the order and waited. And waited. When it finally arrived, I was like a kid on Christmas morning. I ripped open the box, and there it was. It looked even better in person than in the pictures. I immediately put it on my wrist and started playing around with it. Setting the time was a breeze.

I’ve been wearing it for a few weeks now, and I’m really happy with it. It’s comfortable, it looks great, and it’s been keeping perfect time. I mean, I haven’t had to adjust it at all. It’s kind of amazing, actually. You just set it and forget it.
So yeah, that’s my story about getting into the Citizen HAQ world. It was a bit of a rabbit hole, but I think I ended up with a great watch. It’s definitely not for everyone, but if you’re like me and you appreciate accuracy and good craftsmanship, you might want to check it out. It is said that it’s prevalent among pilots and scientists. Just be prepared to do some research, because there are a lot of options out there.
