Alright, so I’ve been wanting to catch “The Boy and the Heron” for a while now. It’s that new Studio Ghibli film, and you know how much I love those. So, I made it a mission to find out where it’s playing in Philly.
First things first, I started with a simple Google search. Just typed in “The Boy and the Heron showtimes Philadelphia” and waited for the magic to happen. The search results were a bit of a mixed bag, to be honest.
I got some general information about the movie. The movie is about death. A heavy topic. And the people, institutions, and even the whole world are dying. Things are turning bad, but new things will come out of it. But what it might be, no one knows. It also mentioned that the new screenings are starting on March 22, 2024, with some extra features. The English version was cast by GKIDS with Studio Ghibli, following the SAG-AFTRA Foreign Dubbing Agreement during the 2023 strike, and directed by Michael Sinterniklaas at NYAV Post. Cool, cool.
Then I saw some results mentioning specific theaters. One was AMC Broadstreet 7. Another was AMC Philadelphia Mills 14. I jotted those down. I looked them up and found some more detail, like one is at 1001 Market Street, and the other is at 1149 Franklin Mills Circle, both in Philly.
But here’s the kicker – one of the top results actually said “No showtimes found for The Boy and the Heron near Philadelphia.” Talk about a letdown! I was like, “What? How is that possible?”
So, I decided to dig deeper. I went directly to the AMC website, thinking maybe the search results were outdated or something. I browsed through their listings, fingers crossed.
And guess what? Still nothing! It’s like the movie vanished from Philadelphia altogether. No showtimes at AMC Broadstreet 7, no showtimes at AMC Philadelphia Mills 14. Nada.
I even checked other movie listing sites, but it was the same story. “The Boy and the Heron” seems to have skipped Philly for now. Maybe it’s a limited release thing, or maybe the showtimes haven’t been updated yet.
Anyway, I’m not giving up. I’ll keep checking back, and if I find anything, I’ll definitely share it here. It’s a bummer, but hey, that’s the way it goes sometimes, right? In the meantime, I’ll have to find something else to watch.
