Okay, so, I gotta tell you about this little project I just finished up. It all started when I was watching “Wayne’s World” again—you know, that classic from the 90s? “Party on, Wayne!” “Party on, Garth!” Anyway, I got stuck on that “Dream Weaver” song. It’s such a cool tune, and it got me thinking, “I wanna mess around with this.”

First thing I did was dig up the original song by Gary Wright. I learned it was a hit way back in 1975. Then, I found out that Wright actually re-recorded a longer version of it just for the “Wayne’s World” movie. How cool is that? I listened to both versions a bunch of times, just to get a feel for the differences.
Inspiration!
- I read somewhere that the song was inspired by some poem, “God! God! God!”, which was in a book called “Autobiography of a Yogi” given to Wright by George Harrison. I didn’t dig too deep into that, but it’s a fun little fact.
- Also, I stumbled upon this thing about John Lennon calling himself the “dream weaver” of the 1960s in his song “God.” I guess the phrase has some history behind it!
Once I had all this info in my head, I started playing around with the song. I mainly focused on the “Wayne’s World” version since it’s a bit longer and, well, it’s from “Wayne’s World!” I’m not a musician or anything, but I used some basic audio editing software to isolate different parts of the song – you know, the vocals, the instruments, that kind of stuff. It was kinda tricky, but I managed.
Then, just for kicks, I decided to mash it up with some of the funny lines from the movie. Like, I took that “Schwing!” sound and mixed it in with the music. It sounded ridiculous, but it made me laugh. I also added in some of Wayne and Garth’s other catchphrases here and there.
The whole thing was just a silly little experiment, really. I just wanted to see if I could take something old and familiar and make it into something new and, hopefully, funny. I think I pulled it off, in a goofy sort of way. It’s definitely not something I’d play for serious music fans, but for anyone who loves “Wayne’s World” as much as I do, I think it’s a pretty good time.
So yeah, that’s the story of my “Dream Weaver” project. It was a fun way to kill some time and pay homage to a movie and a song that I really dig. “Excellent!”
