Okay, so, today’s little project is “grandma nails.” I saw this trend going around and I thought, why not give it a shot? My grandma always had the most perfect nails, so I figured I’d try to recreate that look at home.

First things first, I gathered all my stuff. Nail polish, obviously. Base coat, top coat, the whole deal. I even got one of those little nail clipper things and a file. I wanted to do this right, you know?
I started by soaking my hands in some warm, soapy water. Just like a real salon, haha. Then I cleaned up my cuticles, filed my nails into a nice, rounded shape. My grandma always had these slightly square but still rounded nails, so I tried to copy that.
- Prep the nails:
- Soak hands in warm, soapy water.
- Clean cuticles.
- File nails into a rounded shape.
- Apply the base coat: This is to protect the nails.
- Pick the color: I went with a classic, sort of pale pink. Grandma vibes, you know?
- Apply the polish:
- Two coats to make it look real nice and even.
- Let it dry completely between each coat. Don’t wanna mess it up.
- Apply the top coat: For that extra shine and to make it last longer.
Honestly, applying the polish was the hardest part. I’m not exactly a pro at this. I got some on my skin a few times and had to clean it up with a cotton swab and some nail polish remover. My hands were shaking a bit, especially on my right hand, since I’m right-handed and it’s always harder to paint the other hand.
After two coats of the pink, I waited for it to dry completely. Then I put on a top coat. This makes it shiny and helps the polish last longer, so I heard.
The Result
And that’s it! They turned out pretty good, I think. Not exactly salon-quality, but hey, I did it myself. It was a fun little experiment. I even sent a picture to my grandma, and she loved it! She said I did a good job, which, coming from her, means a lot. Might not be perfect, but it’s definitely got that “grandma nail” charm. I’ll probably try this again sometime, maybe with a different color. It is kinda fun to pamper myself a little, you know? I learned it’s definitely doable at home, and honestly, it was pretty relaxing. Plus, it saves money! I might even get one of those fancy UV light things next time. Maybe. We’ll see.
