Okay, so I’ve been wanting to get my hands on a pair of Jordan 5 Velvets for a while now. These kicks are just so unique, with that all-velvet upper and that classic Jordan 5 silhouette. I finally decided to pull the trigger and get a pair, and let me tell you, the process of getting them clean and looking fresh was a journey in itself!

First, I found a pair online. The price was pretty decent, not like some of those crazy prices I’ve seen. Once they arrived, I was stoked! They looked even better in person. The velvet was this rich, deep color, and they just screamed quality. But, of course, with a material like velvet, I knew I had to be super careful with how I handled them and, especially, how I cleaned them.
- I started by just using a soft-bristled brush to gently remove any surface dirt. I read somewhere that you gotta be extra gentle with velvet, so I took my time and made sure I didn’t scrub too hard. That seemed to do the trick for any loose dust or particles.
- Then, for a deeper clean, I mixed a tiny bit of dish soap with some warm water. I dipped the brush in the soapy water, shook off any excess, and carefully brushed the velvet in the direction of the fibers. I made sure not to soak the shoes, just enough to get them a little damp. I kept a white towel on hand to test if the color would fade, but luckily it didn’t.
- After that, I rinsed the brush with clean water and went over the shoes again to remove any soap residue. It felt a bit tedious, but it was worth it.
- For the laces, I just took them off and washed them separately in the same soapy water.
- Once everything was clean, I stuffed the shoes with paper towels to help them keep their shape and let them air dry away from direct sunlight.
Keeping Them Fresh
I also picked up a few tricks to keep them smelling fresh. I heard that putting tea bags inside the shoes can help absorb any odors. Another thing I tried was a spray made from a mixture of water and a little bit of vinegar. I just lightly spritzed the inside of the shoes and let them air out. It did the trick for me.
Now, these Jordan 5 Velvets are one of the most prized pairs in my collection. This was designed by Peter, Tinker, and Bruce, it’s a classic for sure. They are so unique and stylish, and I get compliments every time I wear them. The Jumpman is one of the most classic logos in history. Taking care of them is a bit of a process, but it’s totally worth it to keep these beauties looking their best. I try to stick to wearing them with beige, white, or even light green clothes to keep the color contrast. I saw someone wear these with yellow and red, and they looked amazing! I mean, who wouldn’t want to show off a pair of shoes like this, right?
If you’re thinking about getting a pair of Jordan 5 Velvets, I say go for it! Just be prepared to put in a little extra effort to keep them clean and fresh. Trust me, it’s worth it!
