Okay, so I’ve been seeing a lot of hype around this “I Love It” song by Kanye and Lil Pump, and the music video is just… wild. Those giant boxy outfits they wear? I just had to try and recreate one!
First things first, I needed to figure out what those costumes were even made of. They looked kind of stiff, like cardboard, but also kind of soft, like foam? I spent a good chunk of time just staring at screenshots from the video, trying to analyze the texture. Finally, I decided to go with some thick foam boards. I figured they’d be sturdy enough to hold the shape but also light enough to wear for a while.
Next up, getting the shape right. This was a whole other beast. I grabbed some oversized cardboard boxes I had lying around (thank goodness for online shopping) and started cutting and taping them together. I basically made a giant rectangular prism for the body and another one for the head. It was a lot of trial and error, and let me tell you, my living room looked like a cardboard explosion zone.
Shaping The Foam
- Cut foam boards to match the cardboard shapes
- Glued the foam to the cardboard using a hot glue gun (and burned my fingers a few times in the process, whoops!)
Covered that bad boy with fabric was next. The costumes in the video are this weird, shiny, almost plastic-looking material. I ended up finding some kind of synthetic fabric at the local craft store that had a similar vibe. It was a pain to work with because it kept slipping and sliding, but I managed to get it on there.
The final touch was the shoes. In the video, Kanye’s wearing these ridiculously oversized slippers, and I knew I had to replicate that. I found the biggest, fluffiest slippers I could find online and, well, they were still way too small. So, I took some more foam, shaped it into giant shoe soles, and attached the slippers on top. They looked insane, but in the best way possible.
Putting it all together was a moment of truth. I slipped into the body, popped the head on, and wobbled around in my giant shoes. And you know what? It was awesome! I felt like a total goofball, but I also felt weirdly powerful, like I could take on anything. I even tried to do the little dance from the video, which was hilarious and probably looked ridiculous, but hey, I had fun.
I wear this costume to the halloween and receive lots of people’s admire, it was so much fun to make and even more fun to wear. I felt like a celebrity for a day!
