Okay, so I’ve been wanting to get my nails done for a while now, and I finally decided to go for it. Red is a color I’ve always loved – it’s bold, it’s classic, it’s a bit sassy, so naturally, that’s what I picked. I mean, who doesn’t love a good red nail, right?

First, I started looking for the perfect shade. I knew I wanted a true red, not something too orange or too pink. I spent like an hour at the store, just staring at all the different bottles. It’s overwhelming, you know? There are so many reds to pick from, many of them are so similar. But if you put them together side by side, you will know that they are totally different, I promise you that!
After going back and forth, I finally settled on this one called “OPI Red.” It was a little pricier than some of the others, but hey, gotta treat yourself sometimes, right? This one was perfect, not too bright, not too dark, just a good, solid red.
Then came the fun part – actually painting my nails. Now, I’m no professional, so this was a bit of an adventure. I started by cleaning my nails and pushing back my cuticles, I even applied a base coat to protect my nails. This is super important because I found out that some polish, especially dark colors like red, might stain your nails. So, using a base coat is a must.
Next up, the red polish! I took a deep breath and started painting. First coat went on pretty smooth. I tried my best to stay within the lines, but let’s be real, it wasn’t perfect. I had to do some serious clean-up with a cotton swab and some nail polish remover. Don’t judge me, okay?
After the first coat dried, I went in for a second. This is where the magic really happens, I realized. The color got way more intense and opaque, and it looked so much better. And you know what? Two coats are usually enough to get that perfect, full coverage.

Finally, I finished it all off with a top coat. This is supposed to make the polish last longer and give it a nice, glossy finish. I can’t say no to a little extra shine, can I?
- Clean nails and push back cuticles
- Apply a base coat
- Apply the first coat of red polish
- Apply the second coat of red polish
- Apply a top coat
And there you have it – my red nail adventure! It took some time, and it was a bit messy, but I’m pretty happy with how they turned out. They look pretty darn good if I do say so myself. It’s not salon-perfect, but it’s good enough for me. I think they will last at least for a few days, fingers crossed! I might try those long-wear or no-chip options next time, just to see how long they can really go without chipping.
Maybe I should go to some nail shops next time? I found out that there is a nail polish brand called MANIKO which has many good reviews. Or maybe I should go to OTTO to see what they have. I heard that they have some really good nail polish from Essie. Ah, decisions, decisions…
