Okay, so, I’ve been seeing these Golden Goose running sneakers everywhere lately. You know, the ones that look like they’ve been through a war zone but cost a fortune? I was curious, to say the least. So, I decided to do some digging and see what the hype was all about.

First, I hit up the usual spots – you know, the big online shoe stores and the brand’s website. I saw a few ads, one from a place called Ochsner Sport that seemed to have a bunch of different sneaker brands, and another for FARFETCH, which I guess is a big deal for fancy clothes. Then there were a few more for Breuninger and other German-sounding places that popped up in the search results.
I started clicking around, checking out the different styles. There were a bunch, some with stars, some with stripes, some in colors that made my eyes hurt. But they all had that same “I just ran a marathon through a mud puddle” look. It was definitely…a choice.
Then I looked at the prices. Ouch. These things are not cheap. I mean, I get it, they’re designer, but still. It’s a lot to pay for shoes that look like you found them in a dumpster. I spent a good hour just browsing, comparing prices, and reading reviews. Some people love them, some people hate them. It’s a pretty mixed bag.
- Checked out online stores and the brand’s website
- Saw a bunch of different styles
- Realized they were super expensive
- Read reviews – some good, some bad
After all that, I still wasn’t sure if I was a fan. But I was definitely intrigued. I mean, who spends that much money on pre-distressed shoes? So, I decided to take the plunge. I found a pair on sale – still pricey, but not as bad – and ordered them. I guess I just wanted to see what the whole thing was about. I wanted to feel them, wear them, and see if they lived up to the hype (or the price tag). I thought I would be able to run faster or longer maybe with them but that is probably more Nike’s thing, based on another ad I saw.
They arrived a few days later, and I have to say, they were…interesting. The quality seemed good, I guess. The leather was soft, and they were surprisingly comfortable. But they still looked like they’d been through a lot. I wore them around the house for a bit, then out to run some errands. A few people gave me weird looks, but a couple of others actually complimented me on them. Go figure.

In the end, I ended up returning them. They just weren’t for me. But I’m glad I tried them. It was an experience, that’s for sure. And who knows, maybe one day I’ll be one of those people who drops hundreds of dollars on beat-up-looking sneakers. But for now, I’ll stick to my regular, non-distressed shoes. This was kind of like when I started that new job after that whole mess with my old company. A totally new experience, but I am glad to try it, and see what it is all about.
