Okay, so, I’ve been on this whole “old lady perfume” kick lately, and let me tell you, it’s been a journey. I’m not even sure how I got started down this rabbit hole, but here we are.

It all started when I was at my grandma’s a few weeks back. I was rummaging through her vanity, you know, just being nosy, and I found this dusty old bottle of Youth Dew. I’d never heard of it before, but I gave it a little spritz, and whoa. It was intense, spicy, and totally not what I expected. It reminded me of something but I just couldn’t put my finger on it.
That got me thinking, what other old-timey perfumes are out there? So, I did what any normal person would do – I hit up the internet. I spent hours reading about these classic fragrances, like how Princess Diana wore Bluebell by Penhaligon’s, fancy right?
Then I stumbled upon something called White Linen by Estée Lauder. The description said it was “crisp” and “floral” with rose, jasmine, and all that jazz. Sounded pretty good to me. It was mentioned somewhere that it is a perfect choice for older women, I don’t know, I’m not an older woman. But I had to try it!
- I went to the department store, feeling a little like a secret agent on a mission, and sprayed some White Linen on a tester strip.
- I kept smelling my wrist all day, trying to decide if I actually liked it.
- Then, I went down another rabbit hole, looking up perfumes from the 80s. Apparently, Fendi, Beautiful by Estée Lauder, Eternity by Calvin Klein were big deals back then. Who knew?
I felt like I had to try them all. I even found out that some people think that the popular perfumes today will be considered “old lady” someday. That kind of blew my mind. Imagine something like, I don’t know, La Vie Est Belle by Lancôme being an old lady perfume! That’s wild.
Here’s the thing, I think I actually like some of these old perfumes.
Here’s what I ended up doing:
- I bought a small bottle of White Linen. I figured, why not? It’s a classic.
- I’ve been wearing it a few times a week. It’s definitely growing on me. It’s different, but in a good way.
- I’m still on the hunt for more vintage scents. I feel like there’s a whole world of perfume history out there that I need to explore.
So, yeah, that’s my “old lady perfume” adventure so far. It’s been fun, a little weird, but definitely interesting. I’m not sure where it’s going to lead me next, but I’m excited to find out. Maybe I’ll discover my new signature scent among these oldies but goodies. Who knows?
