Okay, so I’ve been thinking a lot about the 2010s lately, and man, what a wild ride that decade was for trends. I decided to dive back in and really see what that whole era was about, fashion and trend-wise. Started off by digging through some old photos – you know, the kind you cringe at but can’t help but love? I was looking at my styles and my friends style, you know. Found a bunch of pictures from, like, 2012 with everyone in those super skinny jeans and flannel shirts. That took me down a rabbit hole, and I started searching up different trends from back then.

First thing I did was look up “2010s fashion.” Loads of stuff came up, but I focused on the early part of the decade. Hipster fashion was huge, right? I definitely wore my fair share of oversized flannels. And remember those skater skirts? I found a picture of me wearing one with a crop top. Oh, the memories.
My Deep Dive into 2010s Trends
- The Hipster Look: I went through old blog posts and articles about this. It was all about looking like you didn’t care, even though you totally did. Think skinny jeans, flannels, beanies, and those thick-rimmed glasses. I definitely spent a lot of time trying to perfect that “effortless” look.
- Athleisure: This was when it started becoming okay to wear your gym clothes everywhere. I remember buying my first pair of Lululemon leggings and feeling like I could conquer the world. I practically lived in those things, and I wasn’t alone.
- Neon Everything: Okay, this one was more mid-2010s, but I remember it vividly. Bright colors everywhere, especially in streetwear. I even had a neon green shirt that I thought was the coolest thing ever. I read a bunch of articles about the resurgence of ’80s fashion, and it all made sense.
Then, I started thinking about the weird, non-fashion trends. Remember the whole evil clown thing in 2016? I got so creeped out reading those stories again. People were spotting these creepy clowns all over the place, near woods and schools. I stayed inside a lot that year. And it’s interesting that someone mentioned “Cracked polish” on Reddit. I totally forgot about that trend! I used to spend hours trying to get that perfect cracked look on my nails.
The more I thought about it, the more I realized how much the 2010s were a mix of old and new. You had the ’80s and ’90s influences, but also this whole new thing with social media and internet culture. I remember everyone trying to copy the styles they saw on Instagram and Tumblr. And that’s not even mentioning the whole YSL being renamed to Saint Laurent thing, which I read about. Hedi Slimane totally changed the game with that rock’n’roll vibe.
It’s funny how trends come and go. Looking back, some of it seems so silly, but at the time, it was everything. I ended up spending a whole day reminiscing and rediscovering these old fads. It was a good reminder that fashion and trends are always changing, and it’s okay to look back and laugh a little at our past choices. We all were just trying to rock that style!
