Last month, I finally got a chance to visit Paris, and I knew I couldn’t leave without trying Maxim’s, that famous restaurant I’d heard so much about. Getting ready was an adventure in itself.

I remember reading somewhere that most places in Paris are “casual,” but it’s a different kind of casual than what I’m used to. Back home, you can roll into a restaurant in sweatpants, and no one bats an eye. But Paris? Nah, it’s a whole other level. I packed light for this trip, mostly jeans and a few tops, thinking I’d be fine.
Then I started digging a bit more about Maxim’s. Turns out, it’s quite the fancy spot. I mean, the place is stunning, like stepping back in time. The staff are super attentive, always on their toes, making sure everything’s perfect. And the food, oh boy, the food was delicious! Although, I have to say, they served each course a little too quickly for my liking. We barely had time to savor each dish before the next one arrived. Maybe they were trying to keep up with the restaurant’s high energy, or maybe that’s just the way they do things there.
Anyway, back to the outfit. I panicked a little, not gonna lie. I didn’t bring anything super dressy. I did see some people in jeans there, but they were those nice, well-fitted kind, not the ripped or baggy ones. Luckily, I found a simple black dress in my suitcase that I’d almost forgotten about. I paired it with some decent shoes—definitely not sneakers—and a scarf to dress it up a bit. I also added a few pieces of jewelry, nothing too flashy, just enough to make me feel a bit more put together.
The Experience
- Arrived at Maxim’s, slightly nervous about my outfit.
- Was immediately blown away by the stunning interior.
- Felt a little underdressed but tried to play it cool.
- Enjoyed the amazing food, despite the quick service.
- Left feeling like I’d experienced a little piece of Parisian history.
All in all, it was an unforgettable evening. I might have been a bit out of my element, but I think I managed to pull it off. And hey, I can now say I’ve dined at Maxim’s in Paris!
