OK, so I’ve been messing around with this watch, the SBGJ237, for a while now, and I gotta say, it’s been quite the ride. Let me tell you about it.
First off, I stumbled upon this thing back in, I think it was August 2020. They had just released it as part of their Sport Collection. I remember thinking, “Sport Collection? What’s that about?” I mean, I knew they had diver’s watches and some fancy chronographs, but this was new to me. I was already deep into the Seiko world, especially after snagging an SLA037 during that whole lockdown mess. Man, I fell hard for that one. But that’s a story for another day.
So, I started digging into this SBGJ237. Turns out, it’s got this calibre 9s86 thing inside. Sounds impressive, right? It’s one of those high-beat movements. High-beat just means it ticks really fast, which supposedly makes it more accurate. And this one also has a GMT function. Basically, that means it can track a second time zone. Pretty handy if you’re traveling a lot, or if you’ve got buddies in different parts of the world.
I spent a bunch of time just looking at pictures, reading reviews. I even found some people talking about the ultimate Grand Seiko summer watch. This watch was one of the candidates. They mentioned something about new color schemes. I guess that’s true because it looks pretty nice. Anyway, I was hooked.
Finally, I decided to just go for it. I mean, what’s life without a few risks, right? Pulled the trigger and got myself one of these bad boys.
Getting my hands on it was something else. It felt solid, well-made. I spent hours just admiring the thing, turning it over in my hands, checking out all the little details. One thing’s for sure, Grand Seiko knows how to put a watch together.
I’ve been wearing it for a while now, took a while to get used to it. But, it’s growing on me. It’s definitely become one of my go-to watches. The GMT function is super useful, and honestly, it just looks cool. I’ve even been thinking about different straps I could put on it. Maybe a nice leather one, or something sporty. I heard some people talking about strap recommendations online. It’s a whole world out there!

- Playing with the GMT hand: Fun stuff, especially when I’m pretending to be a jet-setter.

So yeah, that’s my story with the SBGJ237 so far. It’s been a fun experiment, and I’m definitely enjoying this watch. I’ll probably keep tinkering with it, maybe try out some of those different straps. Who knows, maybe it’ll become my favorite. We’ll see.
