Another thing to think about is how long the wood will last. Some wood rots easy, some wood lasts forever. If you’re buildin’ somethin’ that’s gonna be outside, you want somethin’ that’ll last. Cedar’s good for that, and so is redwood, if you can find it. But that redwood, that’s even more expensive than cedar!
Cost, that’s always somethin’ to keep in mind. Wood can be cheap, or it can be real expensive. It all depends on the kind of wood and where you get it. Pine, that’s usually pretty cheap. But oak and cedar, that’ll cost ya. And that fancy stuff, like mahogany or teak? Forget about it! Unless you’re made of money, you ain’t gonna be usin’ that stuff.
Wood also has different grades. Like C24, they call it. That just means it’s real strong wood. They look at it real close to make sure there ain’t no big knots or cracks. If you’re buildin’ somethin’ important, you want that strong stuff. But if you’re just buildin’ a doghouse, well, any old wood’ll do.
