Okay, so I saw this cool 90s layered long hair look online the other day, and I was like, I gotta try that. I mean, who doesn’t love a good throwback, right? Especially when it’s a hairstyle that actually looks good. So, I decided to give it a go myself. Let me tell you, it was a journey!

First things first, I had to get my hair ready. It’s not super long, but it’s long enough to do some layering. I washed it and dried it, because you know, you gotta start with a clean slate. Then, I grabbed my scissors. Now, I’m no professional, but I’ve watched enough YouTube videos to think I could handle this. Plus, if I messed up, well, that’s what hats are for, right?
Getting to the Cut
So there I am, standing in front of the mirror, scissors in hand. I started by sectioning off my hair. I made a top section, kind of like a big, messy top knot, and left the bottom part down. This was the part I was going to start cutting first. I took a deep breath and started snipping. I tried to remember what those online videos said about cutting at an angle to get that layered look. Honestly, it was a bit nerve-wracking, but also kind of exciting.
- Step 1: Wash and dry hair.
- Step 2: Section off hair.
- Step 3: Start cutting the bottom layer.
After I did the bottom layer, I moved on to the top. This was a bit trickier because I wanted to make sure it blended well with the bottom layer. I let down the top section and started cutting, trying to keep the layers soft and not too choppy. I kept checking in the mirror to make sure it looked okay. There were a few moments where I thought I might have made a mistake, but I just kept going.
Adding Some Volume
Once I was done with the cutting, it was time to style it. I wanted to give it that 90s volume, so I grabbed my blow dryer and a round brush. I dried my hair, using the brush to lift the roots and give it some oomph. It actually started to look pretty good! I was surprised at how much volume I could get just by blow-drying it that way. Of course, it wouldn’t be a 90s look without some hairspray. So, I spritzed a bit of that in to hold the style.
- Step 4: Cut the top layer, blending with the bottom.
- Step 5: Blow-dry with a round brush for volume.
- Step 6: Use hairspray to set the style.
And there you have it! My very own 90s layered long hair. It wasn’t perfect, but I was pretty proud of myself for pulling it off. It definitely gave me those 90s vibes I was going for. I even wore a flannel shirt and some ripped jeans to complete the look. All in all, it was a fun little experiment. I might even try it again sometime, maybe with some different layers or something. Who knows, maybe I’ll even get good enough to do it on other people! Haha, wouldn’t that be a sight.
Well, that’s the story of how I did my 90s layered long hair. It was a wild ride, but I made it. And hey, if I can do it, you can too! Just remember to have fun with it, and don’t be afraid to make mistakes. After all, it’s just hair, it’ll grow back!
