Hey everyone, so I went to see the light show at Saks Fifth Avenue the other day. You know, that famous one in New York City that everyone talks about? Well, turns out, things are a bit different this year.

First off, I headed to Fifth Avenue, right where Saks is. It’s always a bit of a zoo around there during the holidays, with all the people and the decorations. So I got there, ready for the usual dazzling light show I’d heard so much about.
But here’s the kicker – there was no big light show this year! I learned that Saks decided to ditch the usual flashy display. Instead, they went with a more toned-down approach. They just framed the building with some lights, nothing like the spectacular shows they’ve had in the past.
Honestly, I was pretty bummed. I mean, I walked all the way there expecting this grand spectacle. I remembered seeing pictures from last year, with hundreds of thousands of LED lights all over the building, dancing to holiday music. It was supposed to be a three-and-a-half-minute masterpiece!
- I started asking around, and it seems like this is the first time in nearly 20 years that they haven’t done the full light show.
- Apparently, it’s Saks’ 100th anniversary, and they wanted to “honor the architectural significance” of the building. That’s what a spokesperson said, anyway.
- I also heard that they partnered with Dior this year for something called “Dior’s Carousel of Dreams at Saks.” They decked out the whole 10 stories of the store with this installation. Sounds fancy, but it’s not the same as the light show, you know?
I ended up just looking at the windows, which were still decorated, and the subtle lights around the building. It was nice, sure, but not what I came for.
Someone told me that the CEO of Saks, Marc Metrick, made the call to change things up because of “softer sales” this year. Makes sense, I guess, but still a letdown for someone expecting the usual holiday magic.

So, that was my experience. I went, I saw, I was a little disappointed. It’s a bit of a letdown, especially since it’s been such a big tradition. But hey, maybe they’ll bring it back next year. Who knows?
