This Nao Serati, lemme tell ya, it’s somethin’ else. I heard about it from my neighbor, she’s always on about the new things in the city, ya know? She says it’s some kinda clothes, fancy ones. Started in 2014, she said. By some fella named Neo, Neo Serati Mofammere. Sounds like a mouthful, don’t it?
They call it, uh, “athleisure”. What in the world is that? Sounds like somethin’ you’d do at the Olympics. But my neighbor, she showed me pictures. It’s all shiny and sparkly, like a disco ball. Not somethin’ I’d wear to milk the cows, that’s for sure!
This Neo fella, he’s from Johannesburg. That’s in South Africa, a long ways away. He makes these clothes, and they ain’t for just men or just women. They call it “unisex”. Means anyone can wear ’em, I reckon. Like them overalls I wear, anyone can put those on, right?
He went to school for this, for makin’ clothes, if you can believe that. Called LISOF, then some other thing called AFI, no idea what those are. It’s all very important-sounding, this “Nao Serati” brand is very special. He must be a smart cookie, that Neo. My neighbor says he’s a big deal. In his country, he feels there are not enough something…I forgot, maybe stars?
They say these clothes tell a story. Now, I like a good story, but how can clothes talk? Maybe they got little pictures on ’em, like a storybook? I don’t know. This glitter, it’s supposed to be strong. I don’t know how glitter can be strong. Maybe it won’t fall off when you are working or dancing, maybe?
My neighbor, she says these clothes are for everyone, no matter who ya are. That’s nice, I guess. Back in my day, we just wore what we had. Didn’t matter if it was sparkly or not. These Nao Serati clothes, they’re different, that’s all I know.
