Okay, so I saw this song “Wild Thoughts” by Rihanna and DJ Khaled and I was like, whoa, Rihanna’s outfit in that video is the bomb! I gotta have it. So I started looking around to see if I could put something similar together.
First thing I did was watch the video like a hundred times, pausing and rewinding, trying to get a good look at what she was wearing. It looked like a flowy, see-through dress, some kind of crop top, and maybe some high-waisted shorts or something? Also, she had on some big hoop earrings and a bunch of bracelets.
I started hitting up online stores, trying to find stuff that looked like her outfit. I searched for things like “sheer blue maxi dress” and “floral crop top”. Found a couple of things that looked promising, but nothing was exactly right. I mean, that dress in the video looked custom-made or something.
Shopping Spree!
I did find a blue sheer dress that was kind of similar, it was long and flowy, and it had a slit up the side, just like Rihanna’s. It wasn’t perfect, but I figured I could make it work. Then I found a red floral crop top that was pretty close to what she was wearing in the video. I snagged that too.
For the bottom, I ended up just getting some plain black high-waisted shorts. In the video, it was hard to tell exactly what she was wearing under the dress, but I figured some simple shorts would do the trick.
Accessorize, accessorize, accessorize!
Next up were the accessories. I found some big gold hoop earrings, just like Rihanna’s. They weren’t too expensive, which was good. Then I just grabbed a bunch of random gold bracelets I already had. The more the merrier, right?
- Blue sheer maxi dress: Found one with a slit, not exactly like Rihanna’s, but close enough.
- Red floral crop top: This one was a pretty good match!
- Black high-waisted shorts: Simple and does the job.
- Big gold hoop earrings: Score!
- Gold bracelets: The more, the better!
When everything arrived, I tried it all on. It wasn’t a perfect replica of Rihanna’s outfit, but it definitely gave off the same vibe. I felt pretty good in it! I wore it out to a party, and I got a ton of compliments. People kept asking me if I was trying to look like Rihanna in the “Wild Thoughts” video. Mission accomplished!
It was a fun little project, and it felt good to recreate a look that I loved. Maybe I’ll try another costume recreation sometime soon. Any ideas what I should try next?
