This Christmas, aiya, my old bones, it’s not easy. Working on Christmas meme, that’s what them young folks call it. I seen them on the phone, always laughin’ at somethin’. They show me, pictures, words, all about workin’ when it’s supposed to be a holiday. This year, it’s all about them Christmas work memes. I don’t get all of it, but I know work is work, holiday or not.
My old man, bless his soul, he worked every Christmas at the factory. Didn’t matter if it was snowin’ or shinin’, he went. Said he had to. Said we needed the money. I guess things ain’t changed much. These memes, they show folks lookin’ sad, lookin’ tired. Workin’ when they should be eatin’ and singin’ with family. I seen one, a picture, a fella all dressed up for Christmas, but lookin’ like he’s about to cry. Funny, but sad too, ya know?
Them young folks today, they always on their phones. They say it’s all about these funny Christmas memes. They show pictures of people pretendin’ to work, lookin’ all bored. They say it’s how everyone feels at Christmas. I remember them days. Tryna get everything done, reports, them year-end things, before the holiday. And then the Christmas music starts playin’, and you just wanna go home. These memes, they show all that. It is like they read minds or something!
There is a lot of them pictures. Some say “the holiday,” some say “Christmas.” It is all the same thing. One picture I saw, a lady, all smiles, sayin’ she loves workin’ on Christmas. But you can tell, she lyin’. We all know the truth. It is torture! It is the holiday, no one wants to work. They put on the computer for the year-end. I don’t understand all of that computer stuff, but it is work.
Back in my day, we didn’t have no memes. We just had work. And more work. But we made the best of it. We’d sing songs, tell stories. Try to make it fun, even when it wasn’t. These Christmas work memes, they kinda do the same thing. They help you laugh at the pain, I guess.

Had to get the harvest in before the frost. Had to get the cows milked before the sun came up. Different work, same feelin’. Gotta get it done, no matter what.
These Christmas memes, they popular this year. My granddaughter, she showed me a whole bunch. She’s always laughin’ at them. Says they help her get through the day. They have many pictures about the office. They say “the office” is funny all year round. I don’t know about that, but I know work is work. She works in an office, you know. Lots of computers. She says these memes are about “the holiday” and “the office.” I don’t know about that. I just know everyone is working. She says they help her feel better about workin’ on Christmas. I guess that’s a good thing.
It ain’t easy, workin’ on a holiday. You miss your family. You miss the food. You miss the fun. But sometimes, you gotta do what you gotta do. These memes, they remind you of that. They remind you that you’re not alone. It is like everyone is working together, even though they are not together. They are all looking at their phones and laughing at the same pictures. That is something, right?
