Today I’m gonna talk about a watch, a fancy one called a “Zurich Tourbillon.” Sounds complicated, right? Well, it kinda is, but that’s what makes it cool. First, I got this idea to check out this watch after reading somewhere that some super expensive watch was sold for, like, 8 million bucks. Made by an independent watchmaker, whatever that means. That got me thinking, what’s the big deal with these watches?

So, I did some digging. Found out that this “tourbillon” thing is some special mechanism in the watch. Apparently, some German folks are pretty good at making them. There’s this “Lange & Sohne” and “Glashutte Original.” Never heard of them before, but they sound important in this watch world.
Anyway, back to this Zurich Tourbillon. I got my hands on one. Not the 8 million dollar one, obviously! It’s a “Theorema” brand, which I guess is more, let’s say, “accessible.” Still pretty darn expensive though. I saw some online for less than 30,000 euros, and used ones for even less, like under 20,000. Still a lot, but hey, it’s a tourbillon, whatever that is!
First impression? This thing is big! It says 44mm without the crown. I don’t know what a crown is on a watch, but it sounds important. It’s also got this shiny gold look. They call it “IPG 22 karat 5 micron.” I guess that means it’s gold-plated, not solid gold. Makes sense, considering the price difference I mentioned before.
Now, the cool part. This tourbillon thing. It’s like a little spinning cage inside the watch. I read it’s supposed to make the watch more accurate. I mean, it’s always moving, which is kinda mesmerizing. It also has this “dual-time” thing, which I guess means it can show two time zones at once. Pretty neat for someone who travels a lot, I guess. Or pretends to, like me.
I started wearing it around. Felt kinda fancy, I gotta admit. People definitely noticed it. Got some compliments, even. Someone asked if it was a “Breguet.” I just nodded and smiled, didn’t want to tell them it’s a “Theorema” that I actually could afford. Let them think I’m some big shot, right? But it also made me feel kind of uneasy because I don’t like to attract people’s attention too much.

Here’s the thing though, after wearing it for a while, I realized it’s not just about showing off. This watch, it’s like a little piece of art. I found myself just staring at that spinning tourbillon, wondering how they even make something so intricate. Then I got obsessed with it and started to check out more information about it.
My Final Thoughts
- It’s a conversation starter. People are curious about it.
- It’s visually interesting. That tourbillon is pretty cool to watch.
- It’s a bit of a status symbol, even if it’s not a super high-end one.
- It’s probably not for everyday wear, at least not for me. It feels a bit too flashy for that.
- It made me appreciate watches more. I never really cared about them before.
- Finally, I decided to sell it. To be honest, it made me feel a little stressed, like I had to be extra careful not to scratch it. It was not very comfortable for me.
So, that’s my experience with the Zurich Tourbillon. It was a fun little adventure into the world of fancy watches. Would I buy another one? Probably not. But I definitely learned something, and now I can pretend to know what I’m talking about when people start discussing watches, haha.
