Man, I gotta tell you about this little project I dove into the other day. So, I’ve always been fascinated by the ’90s, you know? The music, the fashion, the whole vibe. And one person who totally embodied that era for me was Jada Pinkett Smith. I mean, she was the epitome of cool, right?
So, I decided to try and recreate some of her iconic ’90s looks. I started by digging through tons of old photos online. I scoured everything, and let me tell you, there were so many great ones to choose from! Crop tops, bandanas, oversized suits – she rocked them all. I noticed she often mixed and matched styles, like pairing a feminine crop top with baggy jeans or a more masculine oversized blazer. That’s what I liked!
After I gathered my inspiration, I hit up some local thrift stores. I figured that was the best place to find some authentic ’90s pieces. And boy, was I right! I managed to find a few crop tops, some high-waisted jeans, and even a couple of cool bandanas. I also raided my own closet for anything that might fit the bill. My mom’s old clothes really helped me a lot.
Then came the fun part – trying everything on! I spent a good few hours mixing and matching different pieces, trying to capture that effortless cool that Jada always seemed to have. I even attempted to recreate some of her hairstyles, though I’m not sure I quite nailed it. Her pixie blonde cut was something I’ve always wanted to try, but man, that’s a bold move! I ended up just pulling my hair back in a low ponytail or using a bandana to keep it out of my face.
- Look 1: I paired a black crop top with some baggy, light-wash jeans and tied a red bandana around my head. I felt pretty good in this one! It was comfortable and definitely gave off those ’90s vibes.
- Look 2: I found an oversized men’s blazer at the thrift store and wore it over a simple white tank top and some black leggings. I added some chunky boots to complete the look. This one was a bit more daring, but I liked how it turned out. It felt very ’90s power suit, you know?
- Look 3: This one was inspired by a photo I saw of Jada in a long, flowing skirt and a fitted top. I didn’t have a skirt quite like hers, but I found a similar one in my closet and paired it with a black cropped sweater. I accessorized with some hoop earrings and a simple necklace. This look felt a bit more dressed up than the others, but still had that ’90s flair.
Overall, I had a blast with this little project. It was fun to step outside of my usual style and try something new. And it made me appreciate Jada Pinkett Smith’s style even more. She was a true fashion icon of the ’90s, and I think she still is today. This whole experience reminded me that fashion should be fun and expressive. It’s about experimenting and finding what makes you feel good. And maybe, just maybe, I’ll even try that pixie cut someday!
By the way, I also watched some of her old movies like “Menace II Society” and “Set It Off” to really get in the mood. It’s amazing how much she contributed to that era, not just in fashion but in her acting as well.
I documented the whole process and took some photos. It was quite a trip down memory lane, and honestly, I felt pretty darn stylish for a few days! I might even incorporate some of these ’90s elements into my everyday wardrobe. Who knows, maybe I’ll start a new trend!
What I learned:
- Thrifting is a goldmine for vintage styles.
- Don’t be afraid to mix and match different styles.
- Confidence is the best accessory.
It was a fun trip down memory lane, and I learned a lot about ’90s fashion and Jada’s influence on it. It was so great and I really enjoyed it!
