Today, let me tell you about something crazy I did – hunting for moray eels in Florida! Yeah, you heard that right. Those long, snake-like fish that look like they’re straight out of a horror movie. It all started when I got this wild idea to try and find one in the waters near my place.
First things first, I had to do some digging to figure out where these things even hang out. Turns out, they’re all over the reefs in Florida, hiding in the little cracks and crevices. I learned that there are a bunch of different types too, like green ones, spotted ones, and even some called goldentail. Who knew, right? The green ones are apparently the biggest, sometimes as long as a person is tall!
So, I geared up and headed out to the reefs. It was a whole different world down there. I swam around, peering into every nook and cranny I could find. It was like a real-life treasure hunt, except the treasure was a potentially toothy eel. And let me tell you, finding them is not easy. They’re super good at hiding.
After a while, I finally spotted one! It was a green moray, and it was massive. It was hiding in a little cave in the reef, just its head peeking out. It looked kinda grumpy, to be honest. I kept my distance, of course. I heard they can bite if they feel like it, and some people have even lost fingers. Yikes!
- First Step: Figured out where moray eels live and what types are in Florida.
- Second Step: Went out to the reefs and started looking.
- Third Step: Found a big green moray hiding in the reef.
- Fourth Step: Decided not to become a snack and kept a safe distance.
It was an amazing experience, but also a little scary. I definitely have a newfound respect for these creatures. They’re like the secret ninjas of the sea, just waiting in the shadows. I didn’t try to catch it or anything. Just seeing it in its natural habitat was good enough for me. After that, I called it a day and headed back, feeling pretty accomplished. I mean, how many people can say they went looking for moray eels in Florida?
And also, I know some people eat these things. But I found out they can carry some nasty toxins. I’ll stick to regular fish, thanks.

It was quite the adventure, and I’m glad I did it. But next time, I think I’ll stick to something a little less…bitey.
